Analyzing DeMar DeRozan's Impact in the Pick & Roll and Isolation

00:00This guy can get a bucket. And he excels in the pick and roll game as a ball handler. He excels in isolation. So that means late clock, run up play, can he get your shot. He does all of that DeMar.
00:19The problem I have with DeMar is he's not a great catch and shoot three point shooter. If you look at his volume over the course of his career, he does not shoot the ball a ton from three. Or does he shoot?
00:37To me, a lot of this, Pharrell, is the ability to space the floor. You've got to be able to space the floor. Now, if he's able to shoot the ball from three effectively, then this is a home run pick up for a team that picks up another score.
00:52And now when you've got box goals at a bench, he can carry your offensive load and run your offense through. It's a good pick up. Does this put them in the top five in the West? Still probably not. But still, it should help them. He's just got to shoot the ball more from three to be more effective in that offense.
01:11Yeah, but you and I both watch him play a lot and he shoots mid-range, elbow, elbow wing, 10, get to the paint, get to the glass, get to the rack. I think his game is so pure inside the perimeter. I didn't trade him to shoot threes.
01:36I traded for him to score, which he does at will from everywhere on the floor. That guy, he's the definition of space. He gets to his spots and gets his shots off. That guy makes so many wing, dagger, step backs and elbow shots, it's not even funny.
01:54Well, to me, if you think about who he's replacing, who is he replacing? I'm sorry, loud. Right? It's Harrison Barnes. Now, is Harrison Barnes a better player than him? Absolutely not. And I don't want anybody to sit here and say that Coach Young thinks that Harrison Barnes is a better player than DeMar DeRozan. It's not even close.
02:14But what Harrison Barnes does is he's the 78th percentile in catch and shoot threes. That is what I'm saying. He's got to shoot the ball more from three because if you think about Fox, if you think about a guy like Simonis, they also need driving lanes for L that they can go create.
02:35And then you have guys that can kick out the space to the floor. Now, you talk about giving the ball one on one, DeMar's one of the 15 best pull-up game scorers. Create himself. I've got to see how Mike Brown uses him for L. Maybe they put the ball in his hands more than I thought they would do with Barnes and run him on pick-and-roll action, suck inside the floor where he can create and create a lot.
