A man in his 20s has died and another left wounded after being shot on 'Britain's roughest estate'.

Emergency services were called to Well Lane, in Blakenall Heath, Walsall, West Mids., after the victims were gunned down in broad daylight on Monday (8/7).

A man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene while another man was taken to hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

West Midlands Police are now hunting the gunman who struck at around 5pm on the residential street in an area previously branded "Britain's roughest."

A force spokesperson said: "Officers remain on Well Lane while we conduct forensic examination of the area.

"We are also speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV.

"We understand the alarm that such incidents cause and there will be an increase in police presence around the area in coming days.

"Officers will be offering reassurance, so please talk to them if you have any concerns.

"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote log 3637 of 8 July. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Blakenall Heath was given the unwelcome title last year after residents revealed they were living in fear of yobs as young as 10.

Locals said youths had been running riot and even ripping live pigeons apart while one travel vlogger found a squashed rat in a kid's park.

Others compared it to living in 'war-torn Ukraine' after their lives were plagued by gangs of knife-wielding youths.
