00:00So Gari, formerly known as Fraser Island, is the largest sand island in the world, which
00:12makes it really unique.
00:14Off the coast of Australia, this island encompasses some really great variety and ecosystem.
00:28It's also home to one of the most genetically pure dingo populations.
00:32I'm looking forward to meeting some of the biologists, some of the park staff here that
00:36work with these dingoes and seeing what's being done in the present and hopefully into
00:41the future for the species.
00:44There's between 100 to 200 dingoes on the island, and they have the use of pretty much
00:49everywhere that's not fenced.
00:5195% of this island does not have normal human access to it, so it's around 5% of the island
00:56that the people use, and less than 1% of that island is fenced or excludes dingoes
01:02from that area.
01:04One of the challenges with dingoes is that they're extremely intelligent and prone to
01:08habituation where they come into contact with humans.
01:12Their opportunistic nature can lead to them becoming a nuisance, creating a unique human-wildlife
01:18conflict, which unfortunately threatens the future of the species.
01:23Our job is to mitigate conflict between humans and wildlife, in this case the dingo, and
01:28there's a large number of systems in place to do that.
