During a White House press briefing on Tuesday, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about both support and hesitation coming from Democrats regarding President Biden following the debate.

00:00Go ahead, Mary.
00:00To follow on that, the president has made clear
00:02he's done talking about the debate.
00:04It is time to move on.
00:05But some of his allies have made clear
00:07they're very much still in this wait-and-see mode.
00:09I mean, Senator Patty Murray saying
00:10he must do more to demonstrate he can campaign strong enough
00:13to beat Trump.
00:14Senator Durbin saying he's concerned
00:16whether this is just a one-off or a larger issue.
00:18So I guess, how worried is the president
00:20that despite his best efforts, he's
00:22not going to be able to close the book on these concerns?
00:25And Mary, I appreciate the question, but as you know,
00:27there are hundreds of members in Congress,
00:29hundreds, and I laid out a list of folks who have supported him.
00:33We've heard from Senator Coons.
00:35We've heard from Senator Fetterman.
00:36There's support there as well for him.
00:39And so we just want to make sure that we put that out there
00:42as well.
00:42We're also party united behind him, right?
00:44Absolutely.
00:44And look, Representative Gregory Meeks
00:47said coming out of the Congressional Democrats meeting
00:50said that they're united.
00:52And you just saw the Dem caucus leadership
00:55take questions from some of your colleagues
00:57over at the Capitol.
00:59So that is important as well to note.
01:02But look, he had a bad night.
01:04We've talked about it.
01:06He understands people's concerns.
01:08We have been out there, as we have been in previous months,
01:12but out there, obviously, in the past 10 days,
01:14more than 10 days now, since the debate.
01:17And you see from his engagement with everyday people
01:21on the ground, you see him with congressional members
01:25who are showing their support, speaking
01:26on behalf of this president while we're
01:28on the ground in that respective state or commonwealth,
01:32being where we were in Pennsylvania on Sunday.
01:35And so we're just going to continue that.
01:37But look, what we can say, what I can say is, look,
01:40we respect people's opinion.
01:42You just mentioned two senators that we
01:44were very proud working with over the past 3 and 1
01:471⁄2 years to get historic legislation done.
01:51And that's what we want to focus on.
01:52You're right, we do want to turn the page.
01:54You heard me say this last week.
01:55We want to get to the other side of this.
01:57We want to continue doing the work.
01:59And that's what the president's going to do.
02:01And just to be clear, does he have plans
02:03to talk with leadership again soon?
02:04I don't have any calls.
02:06We don't have calls to read out or to preview.
02:09He is going to continue to engage.
02:11I just don't have anything right now to share at this moment.
02:14He talked to CBC, again, the Congressional Black Caucus
02:18members yesterday.
02:19They had a very, very good call.
02:21And so he's going to continue to engage.
02:24OK.
02:25That's great.
