The Great Tit: Close Up HD Footage (Parus major)

  • last month
The Great Tit is a common bird you'll find in gardens across the UK. It's easy to spot with its black head, white cheeks, and yellow belly. These little birds are about the size of a sparrow but a bit chunkier. They're not fussy eaters and will munch on insects, seeds, and nuts. You'll often see them at bird feeders, especially in winter.
Great Tits are clever birds. They've been known to figure out how to open milk bottle tops to get at the cream inside! They're also quite chatty, with a wide range of calls. Their most famous one sounds a bit like "teacher, teacher".
These birds nest in holes in trees or walls, but they're happy to use nest boxes too. The female lays around 7 to 9 eggs and both parents help to raise the chicks. Great Tits can live for up to 15 years, which is quite long for a small bird.
