00:00The substantial sums in mandatory levy payments owed by employers to the Human Resource Development
00:08Corporation is understandable. The Malaysian Employers' Federation said this is because
00:13many businesses are still recovering from the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:19MEF President Syed Hussein Syed Husman said the areas were due to cash flow problems businesses
00:24faced during the pandemic. He said some have delayed levy payments while others have asked
00:29to pay the levy in instalments. In Auditor General Wan Suraya Wan Ratzis' 2024 report
00:34released last week, it was found that HRD Corp had RM205.42 million in uncollected levies
00:41due from 21,058 employers. On Wednesday, Human Resources Minister Stephen Sim said
00:46the ministry would conduct an independent audit of HRD Corp following findings made by both the
00:51AG and Public Accounts Committee. Syed Hussein said he was glad Sim is taking it upon himself
00:57to look into the matters raised, adding that the minister should be given time to address
01:01all these issues. Samuel Chua, FMT News.
