Incredible scenes show how Europe’s tallest active volcano has got even taller.

Sicily's Mount Etna has grown by 12 metres following eruptions on 4 and 7 July, and photographer and guide Emilio Messina was able to get a peak into the new peak.

His incredible drone footage, shot Thursday (11 July), shows the Voragine crater, which has become the volcano's highest point at 3369 metres above sea level.

This exceeds the 3,357 metres the altitude reached in 2021 by the South-East crater.

Emilio says: "In this video we literally look inside a volcano. We can take a closer look by peering into the crater that is the new summit. The eruptions were so powerful that it grew 12 metres.

"And we observe something rare the incredible explosions it emits; the movement of air can be observed."
