00:00So let's talk about the issues that are important to them because what I'm hearing from you is that
00:04Older voters are going to matter and they're going to matter more this election because they're the ones hitting the polls come November
00:12So what are those big issues that they care about most?
00:16Well, I think if you were to sum it up, it's the economy
00:20We look at politics today. And yes, there are cultural issues that are important to both sides of the political either side of the political spectrum
00:28Among Republicans in Wisconsin as in other places
00:32immigration and border security are
00:34really high
00:35among Democrats in Wisconsin
00:37You see issues like threats to democracy abortion and reproductive rights being very high
00:43But across the political spectrum you see issues like the economy
00:49Economy jobs inflation. I'll throw Social Security in there since we're talking about older voters because that's a big issue for them
00:55All of these issues netted up are bigger than those cultural issues and so
01:01When you look at take voters 65 and older what I'll call seniors in
01:08Wisconsin the presidential race is tied in the Senate race Tammy Baldwin's up by two points
01:15Seniors are a competitive voting block that all campaigns need to focus on so
01:22Talking about issues that are economic focused like Social Security are
01:27Really important to get those voters to pay attention to your campaign
01:31That's a really interesting step and I had that written down to that voters older than 65 are tied in
01:38Wisconsin when it comes to Donald Trump and Joe Biden
01:40do you think that is because do they have a little more sympathy or understand or
01:46Give Biden a little bit more of a break when it comes to his age and mental fitness
01:51Well, I think we've seen in
01:55Not just Wisconsin, but in other battleground states that we've polled
02:00today's 65 plus voters
02:03Tend to be more
02:06Liberal than conservatively more Democrat than Republican
02:10That differs from what we've seen in elections past and I don't know if it's necessarily a sympathy factor with Joe Biden
02:19More so than a demographic factor. There's only five years of
02:23Baby boomers who are not age 65 and older
02:26These are the people who came politically aware in the late 60s and early 70s
02:30And so they are a little bit more Democrat leaning
02:34Then voters 65 plus have been in previous
02:38elections
02:39So I think their issues are really focused on what's impacting me
02:45So we asked a question in the survey about you know, are you worried about your personal financial situation and you know
02:53The answer is yes
02:5460% of Wisconsin voters are worried about their personal financial situation
02:59And so when I'm talking about the top issues being inflation rising prices the economy and jobs and Social Security
03:05I think these are the things that are
03:09paramount in in voters minds
03:11And you know, I think I think they are
03:15Competitive from a political standpoint if you're talking about those issues and can address those concerns
03:20You're gonna have an edge as a candidate
