00:00Ready? Fight!
00:02Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 20 Cobra Kai fights.
00:07No, no cops, all right? We can work this house.
00:13Or not.
00:14For this list, we're looking at the best and most nail-biting battles from all four seasons
00:20of the hit show. Fair warning, there are spoilers ahead for the entire show.
00:25Let us know in the comments which fight had you glued to your screen.
00:30Number 20. Kreese takes out the trash.
00:33Stop, David!
00:34He's the one who wanted to get involved. Now he's involved.
00:38Stop!
00:39During a series of season two flashbacks, you initially believe that the obnoxious
00:44jock in the letter jacket is Karate Kid's most notorious villain, John Kreese.
00:49But Kreese is actually the waiter getting harassed by the guys.
00:52While taking out the trash, he sees these terrible men hassling Betsy behind the diner.
00:58Kreese doesn't hesitate to defend her.
01:00You scared? Freak!
01:04Since this scrap happens before he learned karate,
01:07the fight's a little rough around the edges,
01:09but it's immensely satisfying to watch horrible guys get their just desserts.
01:14Seeing Kreese as a hero taking down evil is an excellent subversion
01:18and a great way to develop his character.
01:20I've been fighting my whole life. I sure as hell ain't scared of you.
01:28Number 19. Daniel vs. Johnny.
01:31Okay, who the hell are you to help me about parenting?
01:33You need to open this door right now, okay?
01:35I don't need to do anything until you cool off.
01:39Fans were waiting for a fight between Daniel and Johnny,
01:42on par with their climactic match in the first Karate Kid since the first episode.
01:46Cobra Kai did a great job at playing with this expectation.
01:50In season one, the duo almost squared off before they were interrupted by Amanda.
01:55You know, as much as I would love to watch you and your childhood karate rival duke it out,
02:00I kind of don't want to get any blood on the patio.
02:03So what do you say we try to resolve this over some breakfast instead?
02:06During season two, Daniel shows up at Johnny's apartment looking for his daughter.
02:10Since Samantha and Robbie were inebriated,
02:12Johnny did the responsible thing by letting them stay the night.
02:16Daniel is quick to jump to conclusions, though, kicking the door open.
02:19The brawl that ensues is a personal and heated one that
02:22mirrors their All-Valley Karate Championship fight.
02:25Although the two are once again interrupted before they can finish it.
02:31Sam, what happened? Are you okay?
02:33Yeah, I'm fine.
02:34Why didn't you call a texter?
02:36Number 18. Sam vs. Tori.
02:38Ready?
02:48In season four, the All-Valley is separated into three divisions.
02:52The girls' competition is the last and most important fight.
02:56So naturally, it could only be another showdown between Sam LaRusso and Tori Nichols,
03:02the show's most potent rivals.
03:04The two both come prepared with both offensive and defensive techniques.
03:08While Sam tries not to let her hatred for her rival control her,
03:12Tori tries to honor Amanda LaRusso's kind wishes and avoid pressure from Silver to break the rules.
03:18She comes in like that again, give her a shot to the other eye.
03:20She can't see, she can't fight.
03:22Won't I get disqualified?
03:23Why?
03:24The tense clash features plenty of great techniques and a nail-biting finish.
03:29It was fantastic to root for Tori as more than a one-dimensional villain.
03:33However, the fight's greatness is a bit overshadowed by the fact that Silver bribed the ref so she'd win.
03:40No one suspects a thing.
03:43The money will be in your account tomorrow morning.
03:46Thank you, Mr. Silver.
03:48Number 17. Robbie adjusts to Juvie.
03:51Why'd you shut your mouth?
03:52Sorry, ass punk.
03:55Looks like Karate Boy want to throw down.
03:57After putting Miguel in the hospital,
03:59Robbie finally comes face to face with the consequences of his actions and gets sent to
04:04Juvenile Hall. Just like high school, Juvie is ruled by an aggressive clique. It doesn't
04:09take long for Robbie to get on their bad side. While he tries to avoid fighting,
04:14he can't stand by and let the group get away with tormenting others.
04:18Let's see how that works out.
04:22It's impressive to watch Robbie hold his own against three fierce opponents by using a
04:29defensive style. Although he loses this bout, he chooses to strike first a couple of episodes
04:35later. Not only is the rematch fun and cathartic to watch, but Robbie earns the respect of the
04:40clique's leader, Sean.
04:42Why don't you talk?
04:44I'm no snitch.
04:48Me neither.
04:4916. Daniel vs. Johnny
04:53Next point wins.
04:55Ready?
04:57Fight!
04:59Cobra Kai finally gave audiences a tournament-like bout between an off-balance Daniel and angry
05:05Johnny at the midpoint of season four. Only the winning sensei will get to teach their
05:10personal karate style and philosophies to all of their promising students. The fight
05:15is an homage to their iconic duel that is full of great twists on their history.
05:20Seeing Johnny overcome Daniel's greatest Miyagi-Do technique
05:23instead of losing instantly was just one of many great moments.
05:32What the hell, man?
05:33What the hell, man?
05:42Unlike their original movie matchup, there's no winner. Their tie suggests that no matter
05:47how many rematches they go through, the rivals will both lose if they aren't balanced when
05:52they fight.
05:53You don't have to worry about it anymore. Because we're done.
05:59Works for me.
06:0015. Laser Tag Fight
06:03What do you want?
06:07Payback.
06:08After tensions build up between kids from Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do, they meet up in a
06:13derelict laser tag building. This leads to a clash in the coolest action location the
06:18show's ever given us. Initially, it looks like Miyagi-Do students will triumph over
06:23their foes. But then they start losing to their rivals one by one. Sam's trauma from
06:28a previous brawl causes her to run and hide from Tory. This means LaRusso can't help
06:34when Hawk purposely breaks Dimitri's arm in one of the show's most violent moments.
06:43While seeing Miyagi-Do on the back foot is shocking, there is hope at the end of this
06:48battle. For the first time in a while, we see that Hawk has serious doubts about Cobra Kai.
06:53This isn't over, LaRusso.
06:5814. Bar Fight
07:00Just as Cobra Kai redeems Johnny, it also finds the humanity in his old friends Bobby,
07:05Jimmy, and Tommy. Tommy's best remembered as the kid who told Johnny to put Daniel in a body bag.
07:14In a tragic twist of fate, it's Tommy who winds up in a body bag at the end of this episode.
07:24Before he succumbs to a terminal illness, Johnny's friends treat him to one last night out.
07:31After a bar patron is rude to a waitress and Tommy, however, a brawl ensues.
07:41The set piece makes impeccable use of its environment, incorporating pool cues and
07:46beer mugs into the choreography. The guys have little trouble taking down barflies.
07:50It's a fitting reunion as well as a triumphant send-off for the actor who played Tommy before
07:56his passing. 13. Parking Lot Fight
08:0234 years after losing to Daniel, Johnny Lawrence is out of work and gets his dinner at a mini-mart.
08:08While eating his crummy slice of pizza in the parking lot,
08:11Johnny sees a group of privileged people harassing Miguel.
08:14It reflects the scene from the first Karate Kid where Johnny and his friends beat up Daniel,
08:23only for Mr. Miyagi to intervene. In this case, it's Johnny who assumes the Miyagi role.
08:33Of course, this is less about defending Miguel and more about defending his car.
08:37It's four against one and Johnny is now in his 50s, but he's still got enough kicks to go around.
08:42While the cops break it up, the scene establishes that Johnny hasn't lost his fighting spirit.
08:5112. Tory vs. Miguel As Hilary Swank demonstrated back in 1994,
08:57you don't have to be a boy to be a Karate Kid. In Season 2, Cobra Kai added to its roster of
09:02strong female characters with Tory. In an epic introduction right out of a classic 80s sports
09:10movie, Tory challenges Miguel to a fight when nobody else has the guts. Tory quickly asserts
09:15that she's not a beginner, influencing Miguel to hold nothing back. The two swap one-liners
09:21while dodging each other's kicks and punches, building tension and chemistry with each move.
09:25When it appears Miguel has the upper hand, Tory seizes the opportunity to catch him off guard.
09:30Pinning Miguel down, Tory shows no mercy, making her a good fit for Cobra Kai.
09:4011. Miguel vs. Hawk Over the first two seasons,
09:49Miguel and Eli both go through drastic evolutions. Although Eli reinvents himself as Hawk,
09:55he becomes just as bad as those who once tormented him. While Miguel also becomes a hothead,
10:00he shows more restraint than Hawk. Training in Coyote Creek, Miguel realizes that Hawk has
10:06crossed a line, trashing Miyagi-Do and stealing Miyagi's Medal of Honor. Their argument escalates
10:14into an intense showdown that's only made more atmospheric thanks to the woodland setting.
10:19Miguel emerges on top, but he doesn't hesitate to finish Hawk,
10:22showing that neither student has the moral high ground.
10:25Although Miguel seemingly secures the Black Team's victory, there turns out to be a stingray in his
10:31pond, resulting in one of the show's funniest moments.
10:4410. Johnny vs. Kreese Season one ended with a major bombshell,
10:48revealing that John Kreese is alive and ready to reclaim his place at Cobra Kai.
10:53Season two picks up immediately where we last left off. We weren't sure how Johnny would react,
10:58but seeing him throw a punch at his old sensei was surprising and on-brand.
11:05After Kreese disarms his student, Johnny retaliates by kicking his cigar out of his mouth and into a
11:11trash can. Sweet. This fight is stressful on multiple levels. As Johnny and Kreese throw
11:19punches and reminisce about the old days, the audience can't help but worry about the fire
11:24breaking out. Worrying that he'll become what he hates, Johnny shows his opponent mercy,
11:28but Kreese still doesn't know the meaning of honor.
11:409. Robby vs. Hawk
11:50As the Cobra Kai's second All-Valley tournament went on, everyone was expecting a rematch between
11:55reigning champion Miguel and previous finalist Robby. But when the former champ forfeits,
12:01reformed Cobra Kai student and new Miyagi-Do disciple Hawk-slash-Eli must step up.
12:07Since Eli and Robby know each other's karate inside and out, their face-off is evenly matched.
12:13In the end, it all came down to balance. Robby gets distracted at key moments because he's
12:18struggling with Cobra Kai's brutal teachings. However, Hawk is able to embrace two schools of
12:24teaching and score a victory for the good guys. This fantastic clash closed Eli's
12:29long redemption arc while cementing him as one of the Valley's best fighters.
12:398. Mall Fight While a mall cop is out to lunch, literally,
12:43Hawk and his fellow Cobra Kai students pursue Dimitri over a negative Yelp review.
12:48They corner him in the food court, but Sam swings in before Hawk can beat a positive
12:52review out of Dimitri. Robby rushes to Dimitri's aid as well, getting us pumped up for a face-off
13:01between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do. Although they're outnumbered and Dimitri can barely
13:05throw a punch, Sam and Robby make for an unstoppable duo. In a slick bit of editing,
13:12we cut between the mall fight and their training. Sam and Robby act like a unit here,
13:17perfectly balancing each other out. The mall setting also gives the fight a genuine 80s vibe,
13:22which is always welcome. 7. Miguel Fights For His Life
13:42While people got injured throughout the couple of seasons, the season 2 finale showed just how
13:47high Cobra Kai's stakes could get. During the school brawl, Miguel is knocked over a balcony
13:52and severely injures his spine. He's left comatose in hospital and fighting to stay alive. Because
13:59this is Cobra Kai, his internal struggle is shown through a metaphorical dream karate duel.
14:08He battles an imaginary opponent in his mind as his family sits by his bedside.
14:13While the fight choreography is great, it's not what makes this scene so memorable.
14:18Context clues tell us that if Miguel loses this duel, he also loses his life.
14:23That's why fans cheered so much when the champ eventually prevailed.
14:316. Lunchroom Fight Samantha is stunned when her jerky ex,
14:36Kyler, starts spreading lies about her. Unwilling to take this disrespect sitting down,
14:41Sam confronts Kyler at lunch. Miguel, who has his own beef with Kyler,
14:45isn't afraid to stand up for Sam. Having learned a few new moves since he last dealt with Kyler,
14:50Miguel puts his karate training to effective use.
14:58In a one-on-four fight, Miguel serves up a fistful of knuckle sandwiches,
15:02turning the cafeteria into his personal playground. Taking advantage of his environment,
15:07he harnesses nearby tools and uses a lunch tray to annihilate his enemy Kyler in a funny and badass
15:14moment. Standing atop a table in victory, Miguel earns the admiration of Sam and their classmates,
15:24although the school faculty isn't all that impressed.
15:275. Johnny vs. Kreese vs. Daniel
15:43Shortly after Kreese lets Daniel know he's back, he succeeds in forcing Johnny out of Cobra Kai.
15:49It soon becomes clear that the valley isn't big enough for three senseis.
15:54Once Johnny discovers Cobra Kai students instigated a huge brawl,
15:58he comes face to face with Kreese himself. The heated duel is beautifully intercut with
16:03Kreese's own fight to the death back in Vietnam. Just when Lawrence is about to win,
16:08Robbie attacks him to save Kreese. After everything goes sideways,
16:12Daniel saves his rival's life and faces Kreese himself.
16:24The extended battle's brutal conclusion is halted when Sam and Miguel arrive.
16:29All three senseis decide whichever dojo wins the next All-Valley gets to survive.
16:34Their bargain is a crowd-pleasing conclusion to an epic fight.
16:454. Rematch to the Death
16:54When Daniel returns to Okinawa, he reunites with his fierce karate rival,
16:59Chosen. This brutal fighter previously lost to LaRusso in a duel that nearly had fatal
17:05consequences. After Chosen offers to teach Daniel more Miyagi-Do secrets, the two have a series of
17:11fights. It's great to see them go from using their bare hands to wielding wooden staffs.
17:16Unfortunately for Daniel, Chosen is an even tougher opponent than he was as a young man.
17:21In the end, it looks like LaRusso's luck has finally run out,
17:24but Chosen instead returns the favor Daniel gave him 30 years ago and honks his nose.
17:33Who knew one of the show's greatest fighting montages would end in such a hilarious way?
17:443. Home Invasion
17:51The Miyagi-Do's and Eagle Fangs thought they would be safe at the LaRusso house.
17:57Unfortunately, Cobra Kai shows up to attack all of their rivals.
18:01Things don't look too good for the Eagle Fangs and Miyagi-Do's for most of the well-shot clash.
18:06Miguel gets thrown around after he's just started to heal,
18:09Sam is still afraid of Tory, and Dimitri's arm nearly gets broken.
18:13But everything starts to turn around when Hawk betrays Cobra Kai in a triumphant return.
18:22After this awe-inspiring moment, Miguel overcomes his injuries and beats his old rival.
18:31To cap it all off, Sam faces her fears and puts Tory on notice.
18:35Seeing students from different dojos rise up against a common enemy
18:39helped end Season 3 on an exhilarating note.
18:422. Robby vs. Miguel
18:52Like the original film, the first season of Cobra Kai climaxes with a karate tournament.
18:57In an ironic twist though, Daniel has trained Johnny's son Robby to challenge Cobra Kai.
19:02Like Daniel before him, Robby is injured when Hawk uses an illegal move on him.
19:12Although Daniel can't suppress the pain with Mr. Miyagi's Reiki technique,
19:18he does get Robby back in shape for the final round against Miguel.
19:21Unlike the first film's fight between Daniel and Johnny, there isn't a clear hero or villain here.
19:31Both Miguel and Robby have demonstrated their honorable sides in the past.
19:35In this case however, Miguel wins by showing no mercy.
19:38It's familiar yet fresh, which is also the best way to describe the series as a whole.

20:021. School Showdown
20:04Cobra Kai saved its most ambitious set piece yet for the season 2 finale,
20:09in which every rivalry reaches its boiling point.
20:12Tory kicks things off with Samantha, prompting another one-on-one match between Miguel and Robby.
20:17From there, an all-out battle breaks out between the two dojos,
20:21delivering the show's best choreography to date.
20:24While it's satisfying seeing Dimitri finally best Hawk, the main action takes place on
20:29the second floor, where Sam disarms Tory and Miguel pins down Robby.
20:38In a reversal of last season's tournament fight, Miguel shows Robby mercy.
20:43Robby's instincts kick in, however, causing him to accidentally send Miguel over the edge
20:48It was a brutal, heart-pounding, and devastating way to cap off a season with no winners, only losers.
