Justin Allgaier: ‘Really stinks to come out second’

Justin Allgaier talks post-race how it was to manage his old tires on the last restart and defend Cole Custer from winning at Pocono.

00:00Boy, you made the fuel stretch.

00:03You overcame the penalty.

00:04But I have a feeling you don't leave here happy with this one.

00:08Why?

00:09I just felt like unfortunately I had the best car all day.

00:12At the end there, the old tires were just the difference maker.

00:14I mean, we did what we had to do with the penalty and being able to come to the field.

00:17We did all the right things.

00:18Obviously, William gave me a great push on that last restart.

00:23Just so hard to keep the right front on it on the long run like that.

00:27Really proud of everybody at junior motorsports.

00:28So this Carolina carport Camaro was really, really good all day.

00:32Definitely as fast as expanding the Internet.

00:34Just really stinks to come out of here second.

00:37I've led so many laps here and I feel like this is the same result every time, just not

00:42able to go to victory lane.

00:43So congrats to Cole and the whole 00 team.

00:45Really proud of our team.

00:46Proud of the effort.

00:47I mean, great pit stops on pit road.

00:48Eddie DeHaan did a great job calling the race today.

00:50Just came up a little bit short and it's going to sting for a while.

00:53As you got the more cautions, were you thinking that's going to put another cycle on his tires?

00:58Maybe I'll have a shot to hold him off.

01:00That's what Jim kept telling me on the radio.

01:02He was pretty confident of it.

01:03I just knew, you know, when we were saving fuel there, I knew how much I had to burn

01:07the tires up to kind of let the car coast.

01:10And it's so hard when you're in those situations, you know.

01:14I just looking back on it now, I wish I would have done a little bit different in the exit

01:18of one on that last restart.

01:19But again, really proud of the effort, proud of the team, proud of everybody at junior

01:23motorsports.

01:29Just everybody that's on this car throughout the course of the year.

01:33Just really frustrated to come out here second.

01:34They win a stage today, they get a playoff point, but it's a disappointing second place
