Thomas Matthew Crooks was a 20-year-old man from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, who was identified by the FBI as the suspect in the attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Crooks was fatally shot by the Secret Service shortly after allegedly firing shots toward the stage where Trump was speaking. The incident resulted in the death of one rally attendee, two others critically injured, and Trump himself being shot in the ear. Despite being registered to vote as a Republican, Crooks had previously donated to left-leaning political causes when he was 17 years old. He was a recent graduate of Bethel Park High School and had received a notable academic award. The motive for the attack is still under investigation by the FBI.
