A 20-year-old man named Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania has been identified as the suspect who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Investigators are still working to determine Crooks' motive, as they have not found any clearly ideological or threatening social media posts. He had minimal online presence. Crooks worked as a dietary aide at a local nursing home. He purchased the AR-style rifle used in the attack, believed to be bought by his father. Crooks recently graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022. Classmates described him as a loner who was often bullied.
