00:00Liverpool City Council's launched a public consultation on the city's housing plans.
00:05The local authorities set out a vision to 2030 with a commitment to support 2,000 new homes a year,
00:11reduce the number of empty properties and tackle homelessness in its new housing strategy,
00:16which once implemented will shape a £1 billion plus building programme.
00:20The council's also made a commitment to double the number of affordable homes
00:23to ensure the housing market works for first time buyers.
00:26In Liverpool I'd say the best accommodation for families,
00:34up and coming families with babies and all that, and old people, you can afford them.
00:40Young families and the homeless, there's far too many homeless on the streets, and renovations.
00:51What kind of housing do you think would be appropriate for people who are currently facing homelessness?
00:56Supported living, affordable.
00:59I just want to see, if it does get built, all these houses can be affordable for people that are only up on the ladder
01:09to get a house and make a home for themselves, for the future.
01:15There's too many apartments that people can't afford.
01:19Where I live in Park Lane, they're just throwing them up.
01:23OK, you've got student accommodation down there, but they're just throwing them up
01:31and selling them for like £200,000, £300,000 for one bedroom. Ridiculous.
01:37The draft housing strategy consultation runs until Friday 6th September
01:42and features an online survey which is available at liverpool.gov.uk
01:46There will also be three community feedback events,
01:49that will be at Liverpool Central Library on Wednesday 7th August,
01:52Spello Library on Monday 12th August and Gorson Library on Tuesday 13th August.
