00:00The Great Do-Nothing Salvation
00:07We noticed the central meaning of Exodus 14 in the note yesterday, but it is important
00:12enough to bear repeating.
00:15Just notice how the Lord is fully in charge.
00:18First, He engineers the situation.
00:21When Israel acknowledges their need and the deadly danger, and also reveals their unworthiness
00:26to have been delivered, the Lord then undertakes the whole work of salvation.
00:31He divides the sea and knows the outcome.
00:34He moves to protect His unworthy people.
00:36He has at His command the forces of nature.
00:39He acts so as to guarantee Egyptian destruction.
00:43And He brings the waters back, both to destroy and protect.
00:47Moses sums it all up at the exact midpoint of the narrative, Israel's inactivity, the
00:53Lord's salvation, and the final end of the deadly enemy.
00:57All action is on the Lord's part, while Israel does absolutely nothing.
01:02This is always the Bible's message about salvation, so succinctly summed up by Paul in three words,
01:08He saved us.
01:10Do you remember your school grammar lessons?
01:13The subject of a sentence performs the action.
01:16The verb describes the action.
01:17The object of a sentence receives the action.
01:21He is totally the agent.
01:23We are totally the recipients.
01:24The action is salvation.
01:27It is His action, by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, crucified.
01:33It is our inaction, not by works of righteousness which we have done, when we were dead, not
01:39of works.
01:41And it is for salvation.
01:43He offered one sacrifice for sins forever.
01:46The works to which we are called are not preparatory to faith, nor contributory to faith, but consequent
01:52upon faith and giving evidence of faith's reality.
01:57Salvation is by grace, through faith and even that is not of yourselves.
02:01It is the gift of God but we are created.
02:04For good works.
02:06Old and New Testaments form one Bible with one message of salvation.
02:10Reflection.
02:12Rejoice in this.
02:13O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, to every believer, the promise of God.
02:20The vilest offender who truly believes that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
