NFL executives ranked C.J. Stroud just outside the top five quarterbacks. Do you agree? Clint Stoerner, Ron Hughley and Tyler Milner discussed it here on The Drive.

00:00every year and they go position by position, which is a fun thing.
00:03You know, this is list time.
00:05And they do their list, which they get to coaches, executives,
00:10and they talk about the top,
00:13the top ten at each position.
00:16By the way, one of those executives, this because this is also
00:19your favorite time where people don't put their name on things.
00:21Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's great.
00:22One executive said that they think that Josh Allen is the most overrated player
00:26in the National Football League.
00:27Huh? That's Patrick Creighton, isn't it?
00:30That's PC. I don't think he does.
00:32He doesn't go that far with it, right?
00:34I know he's not a big guy.
00:36I don't think he thinks.
00:37I don't think Josh says he's the he's the most overrated.
00:40I mean, I don't think Patrick says Josh is the most overrated.
00:43Yeah, I don't think he says most, but he does not have a lot of good things.
00:46He's a lot of Josh.
00:48He's closer to that than those of who think he is.
00:51Well, this is this is the top ten.
00:55You won Borough two.
00:57We talked about who was chasing, who is CJ potentially chased for number two.
01:01They have from coaches and executives, Borough two, Josh Allen, three,
01:06Lamar Jackson, four, Matt Stafford, five.
01:10Clint's favorite, Justin Herbert, six.
01:13Then CJ Stroud checks in at seven with Aaron Rodgers at eight.
01:17Jarrett Golf, nine and Dak Prescott, ten.
01:20Yeah. Your top five is your top five different.
01:23Are you? Absolutely.
01:24Oh, it's absolutely different.
01:27Top four, right?
01:29But you would those guys would be in the top four.
01:31Yeah. What's your top five, then, if that's not?
01:34I would put Aaron Rodgers at five.
01:38CJ at six.
01:39That would be yours.
01:40And then I would then I would push Matthew Stafford and Justin.
01:44Justin Hurt would be down below Jared Golf, probably even below Dak.
01:49Yeah. Yeah. Justin would be ten for me on this list.
01:52Tyler, is there any is there any one?
01:55What? Like, I don't think he hates Justin,
01:57but is there any one player that gets?
02:02Like the props or gets graded out the way that he does
02:06that annoys Clint Moore?
02:09No, no, there is not another one more.
02:12As soon as I saw Herbert slide into that six spot,
02:17I knew Clint was going to have me.
02:21Yeah, I mean, I could you have him in the list.
02:23Would he be in the team?
02:24I don't know who 11 is on this list.
02:26I'm off top of my dome. I can't think of it.
02:28He would be 10 on this list for me.
02:30I mean, there's clearly a huge upside with Justin Herbert, but I mean.
02:35I mean, I'm a quarterback in the league, like throwing go routes
02:38off the back foot, you know, versus soft corners.
02:41I mean, that just that that's not you can't do those kind of things
02:43and be a consistent.
02:45I think Jordan Love was maybe 11
02:48in the Packers.
02:50Jordan would not have been above.
02:52He would not have been above Justin Herbert until that playoff run last year.
02:55Oh, I say run a couple wins, whatever it was like he his his late season
03:00and playoff was was pretty impressive.
03:05So so I would Justin Herbert would be well down the list.
03:07Aaron Rodgers and CJ Stroud would be would be above Matthew.
03:11Yeah, I think the next ones were Jordan Love, Brock Purdy
03:16to was a little further to and and and
03:21and Jags. Yeah, I mean, the way the way
03:23I think you got to look at this thing for me is is especially
03:26when you take into consideration who's who's doing the ranking like the executives,
03:29like they're looking at it from an executive, almost a coach.
03:32Like who strikes fear into an opponent?
03:36Right. And you look at the top guys, Patrick, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen,
03:41Lamar Jackson, like those four guys, whether it's
03:44it's just the overall greatness of Pat Mahomes, the the elite processor
03:49and passer of the football that Joe Burrow is, or it's the combination
03:54of the the passer with the athletic ability with Josh and Lamar.
03:59I mean, those four guys have like a like defensive coordinators like, man,
04:03what the hell are we going to do this week?
04:05You could have a really, really good game plan.
04:08And a couple of these guys are going to pick you apart.
04:09And a couple of them, you could have the perfect game plan.
04:12They could not even be playing well.
04:15But yet you lose by seven, you know, that could be a problem.
04:19So I got to look at it through that lens.
04:21And I can't I can't not have Aaron Rodgers and C.J.
04:26Stroud in that they strike fear into opponents, defensive coordinators.
04:31I can't not have them run in that sentence or in that that
04:37top five, top six.
04:39Look, all of these guys strike fear, but it's got to be
04:42it's got to be a fair level of strike fear and absolute
04:47actual wins in production.
04:49Yeah, right. It's got to be a combination of it.
04:51And I and I get for you.
04:53Yes, Justin Herbert strikes fear.
04:55But the other part doesn't always seem to come.
04:58But the thing with Justin Herbert is like Justin.
05:02If you're a defensive coordinator like Justin has had such skill around him
05:06and he'll make ill advised throws and they make like an ill advised throw.
05:12That just happens to be caught for a touchdown or for a big game
05:16that doesn't scare defensive coordinators.
05:17That was we had you right where we wanted you.
05:21We hit you right as you released the football.
05:23You threw the football off your back foot.
05:26You threw a go route versus a corner that's eight yards off of him
05:29and backpedaling and you somehow completed that.
05:34You completed in the second quarter.
05:35I'm going to ask you to do it again in the fourth quarter
05:37when the game's on the line and the odds are you're not going
05:39you're going to do the same thing.
05:40That's what you're that's how you're wired.
05:42And the odds are you're going to throw it out of bounds
05:44or the guy's going to the guy's not going to make a great catch.
05:47And so like his decision making, even though he has a lot of success,
05:52his decision making is not.
05:56Not that we go to his decision making has defensive coordinators going.
06:01We'll get him.
06:02He'll make a mistake.
06:03So a lot like Josh Allen.
06:04But the thing with Josh Allen, Josh Allen's got to get the the he.
06:07Well, for whatever reason, he all of a sudden started being
06:11like ultimately processing at a higher level and playing the game from the pocket.
06:14And then he then he back.
06:15Then he backtracked again back into the old way of doing things
06:19and trying to drive the football down the field.
06:20And then they hired a new office coordinator and they went back
06:23to using his legs more.
06:24So Josh has got a little bit more of an established way of way
06:28of of using all of the weapons than Justin does right now.
06:31Yeah. You know where I go.
06:33One, I think CJ is is fair.
06:35It's fair to me, fairly put in the seven range like that.
06:39That to me is fair office office first season.
06:42Right. You know, to get right there.
06:44A lot of people felt like Jordan Love and him were in a similar boat.
06:47He's not on the list.
06:48So I think it's fair at seven.
06:50And I know I know that we've had this conversation.
06:53I know Sean Pendergast is listening right now, and I'm sure he'll give me hell.
06:57I just like everything we just talked about.
07:00Like the disrespect
07:04to me, the Dak Prescott is just wild.
07:07Like it's just it's just it's just wild.
07:10Because Matt Stafford five like to me, like, we'll be honest.
07:15Matt Stafford has been Justin Herbert, except for that one year when he got
07:20with Sean McVay and he got, you know, and he got with that with that crew.
07:24And he had he had Sean McVay and two really good receivers last year.
07:28And, you know, they didn't want to play off game.
07:29But, you know, they got to the playoffs.
07:31That was like he's he's been Herbert put up.
07:36Huge, it's weird against winning teams before he got to the Rams,
07:40which is it was just God awful.
07:43Like for him to be five over over Dak, who was second in MVP last year,
07:47let the league get touchdown passes under 10 interceptions
07:50and has been consistent each and every year.
07:53And that's why I say I understand the strike fear thing.
07:55But there's got to be a certain level of strike fear.
07:58And, you know, to put up production and to get wins
08:02and he helps teams lead to wins like that,
08:05like I find it wild that he is in the 10th spot.
08:08Like for me and my my top five would have been the same as they're at best,
08:11especially based off coming into this year.
08:13I would have had Dak at five over Stafford.
08:16Or and I would add Stafford a lot lower.
08:19It's interesting, because the thing is, is with Stafford,
08:22like Stafford is an elite arm in the league.
08:25Yes, he can make that not and never will be right.
08:27And and the interesting thing is, I'll say this to your point.
08:32I think I think Matthew Stafford before going to St.
08:35Lewis, I mean, sorry, before going to L.A.
08:39Was Dak.
08:41Regular season, 5000 yards,
08:43I don't know if you ever had that, but but just loading up the stat sheet
08:45with yards and winning 12 games. No, no, no. You're right.
08:47They weren't.
08:48He wasn't winning games, but statistically just driving the football
08:50down the field, putting up big numbers, nothing in the playoffs.
08:54Yeah, fair, fair, fair.
08:55That's exactly what Dax been is great.
08:57They're in the regular season.
08:58Vertical attack, drive the football down the field.
09:00And then and then you're you're you're unheard from in the in the playoffs.
09:06And then he goes out there.
09:07And so where I'm going with that is like Stafford would not.
09:10Stafford would be 10 on his list if he hadn't gone out there and won a Super Bowl.
09:17He was out two years ago and then last year
09:20were I think they made a nice surprise run, but he's making a nice surprise run.
09:25One's got Mike McCarthy, one's got Sean McVay,
09:28one's got Puka and Cooper Cup, one's got, you know,
09:32I'm not saying Dallas didn't have guys.
09:34He's got a I mean, they got a better running game.
09:36I just it is wild to me.
09:38The season and the seasons Dak has had to where he would be.
09:43He would be 10 on this list.
09:45It's just it's just wild to me.
09:46All right. Coming up.
09:48Big three coming up.
