00:00Welcome to MizMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the best characters on
00:10TV shows that deserve to be the protagonists of their respective shows.
00:2010. Stiles Stilinski – Teen Wolf
00:34While we loved watching Scott navigate his life as both a high school student and a werewolf,
00:40there was a different character that always seemed to catch our eye. Scott's best friend
00:45Stiles would have made a great main character in this series. He provided Scott with a constant,
00:51shoulder-to-cry-on, he always had plenty of jokes, and with his loyalty and empathy,
00:56he became a beloved character. It would have been interesting to watch his character develop
01:12as a Teen Wolf, or it might have been cool to focus on him as the best friend of a Teen Wolf,
01:17with Scott being a side character instead. Maybe we need a Stiles-centered spin-off to know for
01:24sure. 9. Jack McFarland – Will & Grace
01:40The show was literally called Will & Grace, so there was no question as to who would be
01:50at center stage throughout its run. The endearing friendship between the two titular characters was
01:56great, but one of their best friends would have also made a great main character.
02:02Jack was arguably the funniest person on the show, with Karen as a close second. The humorous
02:13situations in which he found himself usually centered around his career or his love life,
02:18both of which were tremendously fun to watch. Much like Will, Jack was a great representation
02:25for the LGBTQ community, and we couldn't get enough of him.
02:318. Schmidt – New Girl
02:44All of Jessica Day's remakes brought something entertaining and unique to the table. Nick was
02:50a sarcastic, beaten-down, loving man, while Schmidt was eccentric and mysterious.
03:02Schmidt had enough comedic moments, quirks, and flaws to garner main character potential.
03:10He evolved the most over the series, growing from a lovable jerk with misogynistic tendencies
03:16to a kind-hearted person, and we would have loved to see that transformation up close.
03:31Watching Jess's journey was undeniably fun, but a closer look at Schmidt's transformation from a
03:37plus-size university student to a douchebag-jar roommate all the way to a supermodel's husband
03:44would have been endlessly amusing.
03:477. Opie Winston – Sons of Anarchy
03:53There are a lot of iconic characters in this show. Jack's teller is definitely lovable,
03:59and play contrasts well with him, so they do a good job in the driver's seat of this show.
04:04However, it was Jack's best friend Opie who we would have loved to see as the focus of Sons of
04:11Anarchy. He was just as conflicted, tortured, and dynamic as Jack's, while still being relatable
04:28and hitting some surprising emotional depth. He's interesting and flawed, which is exactly
04:34what you want in a main character. We would have loved to see more of his story arc.
04:496. Abed Nadir – Community
04:58Community was an ensemble show, but the main focus was on Jeff,
05:06the former lawyer going back to community college. The thing was, a lot of his friends
05:11in his study group were much more fascinating, and one stood out from the crowd. Abed was
05:17mysterious and hilarious, and he became more and more beloved as the series went on.
05:28He spent a lot of time figuring out how to socialize and navigate his new circle of friends,
05:36and seeing growth in that aspect of his life from his perspective would have been insightful.
05:41We've heard talk of a movie in the future of Community,
05:45so we may see Abed getting more screen time soon.
05:495. Ron Swanson – Parks and Recreation
06:00Leslie Knope was the cheery, try-hard go-getter of the Pawnee Parks and Recreation department,
06:06and Ron Swanson was the anti-Leslie.
06:09He had a stern demeanor and a skeptical view of the government,
06:20the community, and the relationship between them. We would have loved to learn more about
06:25how he became the way he was, and get a peek into the complicated relationship he had with his ex-wives.
06:39Most importantly, we would have loved to see more of his deadpan humor and rare heartfelt moments,
06:47as those were undeniably some of the most memorable in the series.
06:51We couldn't get enough of Nick Offerman's performance,
06:54and we just wish we could have seen more of it.
07:094. Santana Lopez – Glee
07:13I'm from a part of town called Lima Heights Adjacent.
07:16You know where that is, poppin' fresh? It's on the wrong side of the tracks.
07:21Glee was an ensemble, but as it progressed, it more and more centred around Rachel Berry's
07:27journey from high school student to Broadway star. We saw her navigate her relationship
07:32with Finn Hudson, her ambitions in the Glee Club, and her complicated friendships with Kurt Hummel
07:38and later, Santana Lopez.
07:40I went to school with Rachel Berry, not the soggy mess of a woman that stands before me
07:45today going back and forth between your flop high school ex and that terrifying waiter with a pager.
07:50However, we think that Santana would have been a great protagonist for this show,
07:55as it would have come from a completely different perspective.
07:59Santana competed with Rachel throughout almost the entire series,
08:03while also struggling with her sexuality.
08:07But time makes you bolder, children get older, and I'm getting older, too.
08:18She grew immensely as a character, and was both deeply flawed and fabulously entertaining,
08:25and we were so happy that she got a great story arc toward the end of the series.
08:313. The Janitor – Scrubs
08:34Maybe there's a penny stuck in there.
08:36Why a penny?
08:37I don't know.
08:40Did you stick a penny in there?
08:41No, I was just making small talk.
08:42If I find a penny in there, I'm taking you down.
08:46This show focused on the lives of medical interns and residents,
08:50especially on JD's bromance with Turk and his romantic entanglement with Elliot.
08:55But it's his mysteriously comedic dynamic with the janitor
09:00that led to some of the highlights of the series.
09:04Ow! He's the one that needs to cry, you idiot, not me!
09:09The janitor was full of eccentricities that we wish we could have learned more about,
09:14and we would have loved to see the hospital from his perspective,
09:17as he had his finger on the pulse of Sacred Heart.
09:21The craziest thing about this iconic character
09:24is that he was only intended to be included in the pilot,
09:28and not only can we not imagine the show without him,
09:31we think he should have been at the center.
09:34So your shift is officially over, and that'll do it.
09:38Nice knowing you, John Dorian.
09:39Number two, Cosmo Kramer, Seinfeld.
09:42Kramer, say it isn't so.
09:44It'd be so.
09:46I'm out there, Jerry, and I'm loving every minute of it!
09:49It was a show about nothing, but it was really a show about Seinfeld.
09:54As you might have guessed from the title,
09:56we saw him working as a stand-up comedian in New York,
10:00alongside his best friend George, his ex-girlfriend Elaine, and his neighbor Kramer.
10:06All of the actors brought so much comedic excellence to their roles,
10:10but Michael Richards' performance as Cosmo Kramer was definitely a highlight.
10:15Well, I was under the impression that I could take anything I wanted from your fridge,
10:19and you could take whatever you want from mine.
10:21Yeah, well, let me know when you get something in there, and I will.
10:23Not only was he hilarious, but Kramer's business endeavors,
10:26lack of funds, and insane situations in which he finds himself,
10:31should have been more prominent on the show.
10:33Without him, we wouldn't have ever heard the phrase,
10:36these pretzels are making me thirsty.
10:39And that would have been truly tragic.
10:42These pretzels are making me thirsty.
10:47These pretzels are making me thirsty.
10:49Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
10:53Hugo Hurley-Reyes, Lost
10:56The most relatable and kind-hearted person on the island should have been center stage.
11:03This is what I'm supposed to do.
11:04You're not supposed to die! The island needs you!
11:07Leon Black, Curb Your Enthusiasm
11:10He's energetic and hilarious, like Larry, but better.
11:14Got a fine-ass wife. Wife's fine as hell. I don't know why they got so depressed
11:17when the wife's that damn fine.
11:18Really?
11:19Sick fine. I'm talking about sick fine.
11:20Gorgeous.
11:21Sick meaning good.
11:22I got it.
11:23Niles Crane, Frasier
11:25Frasier Crane's Little Brother story is one we'd love to dive into.
11:29Oh dear God, it's finally happened.
11:32This is the thanks I get for introducing you to my personal shopper.
11:36I gave Rinaldo specific instructions to write down every article of clothing that I had purchased
11:39so that we could avoid this sort of calamity.
11:41I didn't use Rinaldo.
11:43This suit just caught my eye while I was shopping for shoes.
11:45Omar Little, The Wire
11:47The complexities of his character would have been entertaining to explore.
11:51It ain't what you're taking, it's who you're taking it from, you feel me?
11:59How do you expect to run with the wolves come night when you spend all day sporting with the puppies?
12:03Niles, The Nanny
12:05Should this show have been called The Butler?

12:38Number 1, Bonnie Stinson, How I Met Your Mother
12:42It's a truth you can't refute, nothing suits me like a suit.
12:50Ted Mosby's nine-season quest for love alongside his best friends was fun wrapped in sentimentality,
12:57but we're not sure if Ted's perspective was the most intriguing one to explore.
13:03Neil Patrick Harris' performance as Bonnie Stinson was legend, wait for it,
13:09and his storylines were some of the most interesting on the show.
13:19His relationship with his mum was outrageous, his ploys to get women were crazy to watch,
13:26and his growth as a character was something to be revered.
13:30We were happy Ted fell in love, but we were thrilled to watch Bonnie find happiness in
13:36the end too, and that showed us that he should have been front and centre.
13:51Which supporting character do you think should have been the star? Let us know in the comments.
