00:00Welcome to MissMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the longest, most notable
00:08hiatuses of TV show characters.
00:10This list includes series reboots, but excludes spin-offs.
00:14Given that we'll dig into some show details, this is your spoiler alert.
00:17This would have sold like hotcakes if only you hadn't killed off the most interesting
00:21character.
00:22He was a gentle giant.
00:2810. Rory and Lorelai Gilmore
00:31Gilmore Girls and Gilmore Girls, a year in the life.
00:34At the beginning of Gilmore Girls, Lorelai Gilmore is 32, and her daughter Rory is in
00:38high school.
00:39By the end of season 7, which concluded in 2007, both Rory and her mother face significant
00:44changes in their lives, including Rory moving away.
00:47Mom.
00:48You need the black bags.
00:49You should have them all the time.
00:50They're so handy.
00:51Mom.
00:52And I'm gonna give you that orange sweater.
00:53I know you've wanted it, and you know what?
00:54I'm finally gonna give it to you.
00:55Mom.
00:57You've given me everything I need.
00:59Nearly nine years later, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel returned as mother and daughter
01:03in the 2016 revival, Gilmore Girls, a year in the life.
01:07Plenty of other characters, like Rory's ex, Jess, returned as well.
01:11But of course, we're going with the title characters here.
01:13You get more space in Queens, and I want a bedroom and a dedicated writing space, especially
01:18since-
01:19Oh yeah, is this the top secret Manhattan project you've been working on?
01:21Could be.
01:22Ooh, happy news.
01:23Tell, tell.
01:24The revival, considered an unofficial eighth season, picks up with Rory back in her hometown,
01:29as both she and Lorelei navigate new relationships and career challenges.
01:33Sorry, I could write about something else.
01:35No.
01:36Write about your relationships.
01:37You and Jess.
01:38You and Dean.
01:39They'll be in it too.
01:40Don't forget to include Logan, the guy you just can't quit.
01:41Not fair.
01:42It's my life, Rory.
01:44Number nine, Carly Shay, iCarly.
01:46Many teens' favorite web show host during the late 2000s and early 2010s was Miranda
01:51Cosgrove's Carly Shay.
01:52In the series finale of the Nickelodeon teen sitcom, iGoodbye, which aired in 2012, emotions
01:58ran high as the characters said their goodbyes and Carly reflected on her journey thus far.
02:03So, I'm gonna get my bags and head downstairs.
02:05Why don't I help you with those bags?
02:06Yeah, that'd be nice.
02:07In 2021, though, Carly came back to Seattle as an adult and relaunched her show, as well
02:12as reuniting with friends and family.
02:14And it seems like we never left.
02:16The iCarly revival provided fans with three more seasons inside the life of Carly Shay,
02:20offering a more adult tone and mature content compared to the original six seasons.
02:25I would've done it at my place, but rich people have such nice lighting.
02:28What are you doing here?
02:30I'm the rich person with the nice lighting that owns this apartment.
02:33Number eight, Will & Grace cast, Will & Grace.
02:36A decade-plus gap between seasons is nothing to sneeze at.
02:40That's what happened for the sitcom Will & Grace, the groundbreaking show originally
02:43wrapped up in 2006.
02:44I propose a toast to family.
02:48Family that loves you and accepts you for exactly who you are.
02:53Boring.
02:54Then, in 2017, it was revived for the first of what would go on to be three more seasons,
03:00with the whole gang returning.
03:01Eric McCormick and Deborah Messing were back to resume their roles as the title characters,
03:06now living together again in their late 40s.
03:08What happened to the children you had who grew up and got married to each other?
03:13That never happened.
03:14Oh, what a relief.
03:16Everybody wants to see you two raise kids.
03:17And, of course, the ever-messy duo of Karen and Jack were back in the picture as well
03:21after the lengthy hiatus.
03:23Even after a lengthy break, this foursome was as hilarious as ever.
03:27We should just be what we've always been.
03:29A sad middle-aged lady.
03:37And grace.
03:38Number seven, Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars.
03:41Kristen Bell made her big break as the title character of Veronica Mars.
03:44I've got too many questions swirling around in my head to wait until he's willing to share.
03:49These questions need answers.
03:51That's what I do.
03:52The well-received series concluded after three seasons, only to be revived for one last hurrah
03:5712 years later.
03:58Veronica started off as a high school student, an amateur sleuth.
04:09By what was originally the end of the series, she was just beginning her college education
04:13and working as a private investigator on the side.
04:15In the show's 2019 revival, Bell returned as Veronica, who was still a P.I., but now
04:20tackling even more complex cases.
04:23I like to think I would have walked away if we didn't need the money.
04:28Knowing what I know now, I wish I had.
04:31Number six, Murphy Brown, Murphy Brown.
04:34For a TV series to come to a halt and then return 20 years later is pretty rare.
04:38However, CBS decided it was worth it for the sitcom Murphy Brown.
04:42With the last episode aired before the turn of the century, Candice Bergen came back to
04:45portray the title character in 2018.
04:48Reporting live from the New York Hilton, this is Avery Brown.
04:53The show effectively incorporates the two-decade gap in Murphy Brown's life, while also addressing
04:57how the media and journalism industries have changed.
05:01After retiring from her chosen fields, Murphy is drawn back in when she's offered a television
05:05host position she can't resist.
05:07I'm not on any of that stuff.
05:09That's where people go to nurse their outrage and express their opinions.
05:12And as we all know, I don't care what other people think.
05:15Unfortunately, the revival was not as well-received, with critics describing it as topical, but
05:20without anything new to say.
05:22Be careful, old Murphy.
05:23You hit me, I hit back ten times harder.
05:25Oh, you bring it on.
05:28Hashtag Van Quayle has another thing going.
05:32Number five, Michael Schofield and Sarah Tancredi, Prison Break.
05:36As far as a TV character coming back from the dead, it doesn't get much weirder than
05:39Michael Schofield in Prison Break.
05:42I'm happy right now.
05:45So am I.
05:47Michael was presumed dead near the end of Season 4 in 2009, which fans assumed was the
05:51end of the series.
05:52But in 2017, Prison Break was brought back for one last job, er, season.
05:57And Michael was surprisingly alive.
05:59We're gonna get you out of here.
06:00My name isn't Michael.
06:01And I don't know who you are.
06:09Another crucial character who at one point returned from the dead, for years, was Sarah
06:12Tancredi, Michael's girlfriend.
06:14So they have that in common.
06:16The revival featured another prison escape attempt, of course, as Michael and Sarah face
06:20new challenges and threats.
06:22Michael.
06:23Talk to me.
06:24Michael.
06:25Michael.
06:26Michael, what are you doing, dammit?
06:28Number four, John Winchester, Supernatural.
06:31Sam and Dean Winchester's father, John, died in the early stages of Season 2 of Supernatural.
06:35And while the show featured multiple instances of individuals coming back from the dead,
06:38John's death felt very final.
06:40Still no pulse.
06:41OK, that's it, everybody.
06:42I'll call it.
06:43Time of death, 10.41am.
06:44That is, until he re-emerged 12 seasons later, after his sons accidentally brought him back
06:54into the present timeline thanks to a magic pearl.
06:56It's 2003.
06:57It's 2008.
06:59It's 2019.
07:02No.
07:03This was not a 12 years older version of John, but rather John from three years before his
07:08death.
07:09Mary Winchester, Sam and Dean's mother, also deserves a mention, as she was resurrected
07:13at the end of Season 11, after being dead for basically the entire series.
07:16Mary.
07:18John's hiatus was slightly longer, though.
07:29Even so, the whole family gets a well-deserved reunion.
07:32No.
07:33Three, Dan, Darlene and Becky Connor, Roseanne and the Connors.
07:37It's gotta be wrong.
07:38Well, I wish it was, but they think that she must have taken the pills right before bed,
07:43and with her health issues, it was enough to stop her breathing.
07:48The return of Roseanne in 2018 was mired in controversy.
07:51The last season ended in the late 90s, so one might think the revival would last longer
07:54than just a few months.
07:55However, the series was abruptly cancelled due to controversy surrounding offensive social
08:00media posts by lead actress Roseanne Barr.
08:02Instead, a spinoff was created which focused on the rest of the Connor family, namely Darlene,
08:07Becky and Dan Connor.
08:08This is domestic.
08:11My loss is deeper than that.
08:12I think it goes all the way to Germany.
08:15Roseanne's death in the original run of Roseanne had been retconned, and he begins pursuing
08:18a new relationship after the death of his wife.
08:21Meanwhile, Darlene and Becky contend with their own relationship and personal issues.
08:25Oh, I'll be fine.
08:27You know, and if you need anything tonight, you just call me, okay?
08:31Anytime.
08:32Okay.
08:33Because I just want to make sure that you're okay.
08:35No.
08:36Two, Dr. Sidney Herron, Grey's Anatomy.
08:38Because my horoscope said it was going to be a very challenging day, and I was a little
08:41worried, but no.
08:42You guys.
08:43Yeah.
08:44You guys look like a good group.
08:45Which is great!
08:46Because we're going to have so much fun, huh?
08:47For Season 21 of the popular medical drama, it was time to page an old friend, Dr. Sidney
08:52Herron.
08:53Carly Roscher reprised her role as Sidney after a 17-year hiatus.
08:58Grey's Anatomy broke the record in 2019 for the United States' longest-running primetime
09:02medical drama, so it's not surprising that several of the many characters had a long
09:06absence in between appearances.
09:08That's the compassion I was looking for.
09:11Apology accepted.
09:12Okay, you want to hug it out?
09:15Another example is Addison Montgomery, who departed in 2013 before ultimately returning
09:19to the show nine years later.
09:20What does that mean?
09:24It means you'll be coming with me.
09:27Nice to meet everyone.
09:29I'm Dr. Addison Montgomery.
09:31Of course, 17 years beats nine, which is why Sidney earns her spot, bringing her perky
09:35attitude back to the show and to our list.
09:38Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
09:42Dan Fielding, Night Court, returned for the reboot over 30 years after the original show
09:46ended.
09:47My name is Abby Stone.
09:48I used to work with my dad.
09:49You're Harry's daughter.
09:50Come in.
09:51Jesse Spannone, Saved by the Bell, returned for a series reboot after a nearly 28-year
10:01hiatus.
10:02It's me.
10:03I know it's me.
10:04Or you.
10:05No, you.
10:06Okay.
10:08Sean Hunter, Boy Meets World, and Girl Meets World, appeared in a spin-off series about
10:1314 years after the original show.
10:16Gee, Cora, I thought you'd be more excited to see me.
10:18Yeah!
10:19Kitty and Red Foreman, That 70s Show, and That 90s Show, came back for a sequel series
10:2717 years later.
10:28You smell good.
10:29Oh, it is the Hellmints.
10:30Was that a car door?
10:35That was a car door.
10:37Stephanie Tanner, Full House, and Fuller House, reappeared in a sequel series as an adult
10:42after starring in the original series as a kid.
10:44I just wanted to make a flashy entrance.
10:46Steph, that accent's really cute.
10:49Would you please stop doing it?
10:51What accent?
10:52Out.
10:53Daddums, don't be daft.

11:12Number 1.
11:13Agent Cooper, Twin Peaks
11:14If you're someone who watched Twin Peaks when it aired in the early 90s, it would be understandable
11:19if you needed a refresher by the time of Twin Peaks The Return.
11:27That's because it came out in 2017, which is over 25 years after the show was cancelled.
11:32It seemed like the well-acclaimed series, and its lead character, Special Agent Dale
11:36Cooper, had more to give after its Season 2 finale.
11:39And they did.
11:40Although only for a season.
11:42I understand.
11:43Cooper and the show came back for more investigations into the bizarre residence of the titular
11:47town and even more damn fine cups of coffee.
11:52And Beulah, put something better at your front door.
11:57Let us know in the comments what TV series you hope returns.
12:01How great is this?
12:02My favorite person in the world.
12:05And my wife.
12:06Do you agree with our picks?
