00:00Last year, Americans consumed more than six billion avocados,

00:06and that produces a lot of inedible waste.

00:09Now, a company has developed a process to transform avocado pits into plastic.

00:15Bioplastics like these could help reduce pollution because they break down faster and use less fossil fuels.

00:21We visited Biofase in Monterrey, Mexico to see how it all works.

00:26Mexico exports about half of the world's avocados.

00:29The process starts with avocado seeds that have been washed at the supplying factory.

00:34As the seed is going through the machine,

00:35it's turned into a bioplastic resin that's ready to withstand a lot of heat.

00:40What comes out the other end is a malleable sheet that can be molded and cut into different shapes.
