00:00This is Thoreau, which is a bit of a hidden gem at Sheffield's huge new Cambridge Street
00:05Collective food hall. It's the latest venture from the Grayson brothers behind the Michelin
00:10recommended Duke and Lowe restaurant. Seated at the counter, you get to watch your chefs
00:15create the delicious small plates made using seasonal ingredients. It's fine dining in
00:21a relaxed environment, and while it is a little more expensive than the food hall's other
00:25vendors, it's definitely worth it. Highlights for us included the freshly baked focaccia
00:31with an intense beef fat and marmite butter, the flat iron steak with a rich Valverti-Bernaise
00:37sauce, and the perfectly cooked spiced monkfish with tomato and kimchi salsa. Thoreau is perfect
00:44for a special occasion, but there's also a takeaway menu for more affordable everyday
00:49dining. When we visited, this included a bavette steak sandwich made with the outstanding
00:55focaccia for a very reasonable £14, and a crispy monkfish scampi loaded fries for £12.
