00:00Today I'd like to take you for a walk down and share my thoughts on
00:03Sheffield's London Road, a bustling hub of takeaways, passing traffic and
00:07delivery cyclists that is a tapestry of cultures all on its own.
00:10London Road was once a sort of local high street with butchers and
00:14grocers and nowadays it lives on as more of a melting pot of communities and a
00:18densely packed market of takeaways and restaurants. There's too many to name
00:22there's Uber Eats takeaway of the year winner Munchies, really good chicken
00:25wings by the way, the super popular Rassam's Creamery, Taco Mex, half a dozen
00:30Turkish charcoal grills, four Chinese places I can think of, Yama Sushi, at
00:35least four chai cafes, Mr. Chai, burger places, the list goes on and the list
00:40seems to grow every month as well with new joints like Fat Buns, Wings Chinese
00:44Bakery, Chino's Pizza, Maison de Burger, all adding bright new signs to the street
00:50scene. All this makes London Road strikingly colourful too, helped in no
00:54small part by pieces of stunning street art like this dedicated street art wall
00:58which represses a few times a year, this one currently showing Joan of Arc. London Road
01:03is at the centre of the action too as a melting pot of Sharrow, Highfields,
01:07Lowfields, the Ring Road, a student accommodation, the Aldi supermarket
01:11brings no small amount of traffic, there's a large Chinese community as well as
01:15there being one street over from Bramall Lane so it's very popular with United
01:18supporters. What it doesn't have though is much in the way of parking or much of
01:23a nightlife, there's a few pubs sure but it always struck me that you're either
01:26walking on London Road for the food because you're passing through or you want
01:30to get something or you're ordering food on London Road to come to you through
01:34one of its delivery or Uber Eat deals, you're not ever really visiting London
01:38Road for its own sake. I hope that changes one day and there's something
01:42added to the street scene to make it more of a pull for tourists. That said I
01:46only see London Road getting more and more colourful as time goes on as
01:50businesses fight to stand out on this bustling street of takeaways and
01:53restaurants and in competition with the city's growing number of food halls that
01:57are all fighting for a slice of.
