00:00The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, denounced that the far-right wing keeps their
00:15plans to attack the national electorate grid with the aim of influencing the July 28 elections.
00:24In Palestine, the UNRWA denounces that Israeli genocidal forces have destroyed 70% of the
00:29schools in Gaza Strip.
00:35And in Russia, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov granted that Moscow is ready to hold negotiation
00:40talks on Ukraine and on security in Europe.
00:49Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra GarcĂa.
00:52From Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba, we begin with the news.
00:59In Venezuela, the presidential candidate of the great patriotic poll, Nicolás Maduro,
01:11denounced that the far-right wing keeps their plans to attack the national electorate grid
01:15with the aim of influencing the July 28 elections.
01:18During a large rally held in the city of Barquisemito, in the latter state, Maduro condemned that
01:25the far-right, along with their U.S. allies, are willing to harm the Venezuelan people
01:29in order to take office at any cost.
01:32In this regard, the presidential candidate of the great patriotic poll thanked the people
01:36for supporting him in the defense of the national sovereignty against the COP plans against
01:42the country.
01:48And they are betting that there will be a hecatomb, a tragedy, that something will happen,
01:52that they will attack the electrical system and that something serious will happen or
01:56any other hecatomb to see if they can avoid what is already written in the books and sacred
02:00pacts of heaven, which is the irreversible victory of Nicolás Maduro-Moros and the Venezuelan
02:07people on July 28.
02:09Likewise, the presidential candidate of the great patriotic poll affirmed that his government
02:15will continue working to recover schools and hospitals in the country to promote the well-being
02:20of the Venezuelan people.
02:24We have recovered thousands of Simoncito's schools, high schools.
02:27We still need to do it.
02:29But who is going to do it?
02:30We have recovered ambulatories, CDI, DRI hospitals, more.
02:35We still need to recover 100% of schools, high schools, universities, CDI, ambulatory
02:41hospitals.
02:42I have to work three times.
02:47In this same context, the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, before the mobilization of
02:52the people of Carora in the state of Lara, reaffirmed that he is not subject to any foreign
02:57power, neither to internal nor external powers, stressing that he only obeys the sovereign
03:03people.
03:04The dignitary specified that he is a facilitator of the popular conscience and declared his
03:09desire for Venezuela to continue being a free country.
03:12He stressed that there are many things to be done for the future.
03:23Amid questions about the current Colombian government's policy of total peace, a report
03:27presented on Wednesday revealed that armed groups have greatly expanded during the presidency
03:32of Iván Duque.
03:33In this sense, the Peace and Reconciliation Foundation presented a report on the balance
03:38and challenges of the PEDRO government's total peace policy for the period 2022-2024.
03:45Precisely the statement pointed out that although the groups opposed to the current government
03:50allege that armed groups have expanded as a result of the ceasefires that have been implemented,
03:56in reality their greatest growth occurred between 2018 and 2022 during Duque's presidency.
04:06In all this framework of misinformation that has been circulating recently, there is a
04:10tendency to say that it is thanks to the ceasefires or even to the total peace policy that there
04:15is an increase both in the number of armed groups and in the figures of violence, and
04:19what we find is that this is not true, although there are many challenges, and even challenges
04:24related to the effectiveness of the ceasefires in providing humanitarian aid, what we find
04:29is that we have a cycle of violence in, which the growth of armed groups starts in 2018,
04:35which is a peak between 2021 and 2022, but effectively the total peace has not contributed
04:41to disarmament or de-escalation, or even to stopping the growth of several of these groups,
04:46including the National Liberation Army.
04:49The President of Argentina, Javier Milley, received on Wednesday his Rwandan counterpart
04:54Luis Lacalle Pau at the Casa Rosada seat of the government in Buenos Aires.
04:58The meeting had an open agenda, executive sources informed La NaciĂłn.
05:03The meeting happened under acute climate, although there was no official communiqué
05:07about the meeting.
05:09The office of President Milley only published a photograph of both presidents in the social
05:13network X, without details about the topics discussed.
05:23In Brazil, the head of intelligence services during Jair Bolsonaro's presidency, Alexandre
05:27Ramagen, appeared before police on Wednesday to testify as part of an investigation into
05:33alleged illegal spying on senior political figures and other personalities.
05:38Investigators suspect that during the term of office of the former far-right president,
05:43a criminal organization was formed within the Brazilian intelligence agency to monitor
05:48important political figures, judges of the Federal Supreme Court and even journalists.
05:54However, the former intelligence chief defends his innocence.
05:58In a publication last week on the social network X, he criticized the investigation, which
06:03he considers was aimed at bringing to the press superficial conclusions and conjectures.
06:16Also in Brazil, the government authorized on Wednesday the dispatch of national force
06:21agents following the worsening of the conflict between the Awarani Kaiu-O ethnic group and
06:26rural landowners in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
06:30The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, said that it will be
06:35destined for the border region and the indigenous peoples located in the southern cone region
06:40of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
06:42He also emphasized that it is aimed at the preservation of public order and the integrity
06:47of people and patrimony.
06:49This decision comes after an intensification of conflicts between indigenous peoples seeking
06:54to reconquer their ancestral lands and landowners, who claim to be the legal owners and who respond
07:00violently.

07:30Welcome back.
07:41South Korean authorities said on Thursday that about 100 homes have been flooded across
07:46the country due to heavy rains.
07:48In this regard, while officials have confirmed no deaths so far, according to the latest
07:52reports about 560 people had to be evacuated in the center of the country due to floodings
07:58or the possibility of landslides.
08:00Meanwhile, local authorities issued a heavy rain warning in Seoul and suspended access
08:05to highways and 29 rivers for safety reasons, as farmers also expressed concerns about the
08:11impact of the heavy rains in the harvest.
08:19The water is receding.
08:21The area was flooded because the nearby stream overflowed.
08:24The pumping station could not pump out the water, so the place was flooded, but now it
08:28is receding.
08:47The UNRWA denounces that Israeli genocidal forces have destroyed 70% of schools in Gaza
08:52Strip.
08:53In this regard, UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini noted in Social Platform
08:59X that this have become unusual incidents and at least eight schools have been hit in
09:04the last 10 days, including six UNRWA schools.
09:07Lazzarini added that the war has deprived Gazan children of their childhood and education
09:13as schools must never be used for military or combat purposes by any of the conflict
09:18sides.
09:19The Commissioner further denounced that blatant and constant disregard for international humanitarian
09:24law by the Israeli forces, expressing that all the rules of war have been broken in Gaza
09:30and that losing our common humanity must not become the new norm, ending his statement
09:35ensuring that a ceasefire is needed.
09:44At least 292 wounded Gazans died in Palestine following the closure of the Rafah crossing
09:50in the southern Gaza Strip by the Israeli army.
09:53According to the Gaza Press Office, among the dead are people who were seriously wounded
09:57and waiting for treatment in hospitals outside Gaza, but died while waiting for the crossing
10:02to open.
10:03Meanwhile, more than 3,500 sick and wounded people have been denied passage since Israel
10:09took over the crossing on May 7.
10:12On the other hand, the World Health Organization denounced that in addition to these arbitrary
10:16actions, the government of Israel also has stranded more than 80 trucks coming from Egypt
10:22with food and medical supplies for the people of Gaza.
10:33In a new provocation against the Palestinian population, Israel's right-wing extremist
10:38national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East
10:43Jerusalem on Thursday, escorted by police.
10:46In this way, accompanied by several policemen, Ben-Gvir entered the third holiest site in
10:52Islam where he called for no ceasefire agreement to be reached and for Israel's genocidal
10:57aggression in Gaza to continue.
11:00It's worth noting that Ben-Gvir, since becoming minister in 2022, has broken into the Al-Aqsa
11:06Mosque holiest site five times, which is seen as a provocation by the Muslim and Palestinian
11:11communities.
11:12Precisely during his speech, he called on his government to maintain its military incursion
11:17in Gaza, despite the rejection of the international community and sectors of its nation.
11:26I pray and I make efforts so that the prime minister has the energy to not give in and
11:33that he goes all the way by reinforcing military pressure, stopping their fuel, so that we
11:37win.

12:03Welcome back to From the South.
12:09Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov granted that Moscow is ready to hold negotiation talks
12:14on Ukraine and on security in Europe.
12:16On a press briefing held shortly after a meeting with the members of the Security Council,
12:21Lavrov assured that he hopes that at some point a treaty on European security will be
12:26reached and in this context the Ukrainian crisis will be solved.
12:29The foreign minister further stressed the need to stop the delivery of arms to Ukraine
12:34and to seek a solution that would compel to be aware of the realities on the ground and
12:39in public life.
12:40According to Lavrov, the West chose to boost the so-called peace plan of the President
12:45of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, which is a pronounced form of ultimatum.
12:55There has been talk of such a second briefing.
12:58Not only Switzerland was mentioned, but also other countries that could become a platform
13:02for this second round of the conference.
13:04But talking about what they'll do, they all in one way or another formulated an absolutely
13:08one-sided approach, absolutely unacceptable to us and to many others sincerely interested
13:14in peace.
13:39The Olympic flame is entering the final days of its relay.
13:43In the capital Paris, the Commune of Château Thierry was on Tuesday the starting point
13:47for the 59th leg of the 12,000 km journey across France.
13:53Meanwhile, in Aisne, the symbolic fire was once again greeted with a popular celebration
13:58in several of the department's landmarks, followed by the lighting of the cauldron in
14:03Saint-Quentin.
14:08On the other hand, eight days before the opening ceremony of the France 2024 Games, delegations
14:13from the United States, Japan, South Africa and Uruguay are among the first to arrive
14:18at the Olympic Village.
14:19Precisely, about 10,500 athletes from 206 countries will participate over 19 days, competing
14:27in 32 sports with a total of 329 gold medals up for grabs.
14:32In the meantime, some of the athletes spoke about the weather, their personal goals and
14:37the competition in general.
15:07Following the 2023 strikes of the Writers and Actors Union, which caused production
15:12delays, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences officially announced the nominees
15:16for the 76th Annual Emmy Awards during a live broadcast presented by past winners Sheryl
15:23Lee Ralph and Tony Hale.
15:26After having recent seasons of many award-favorite shows pushed back, the TV Academy's approximately
15:3222,000 members chose from 229 series submitted in the key Drama, Comedy and Limited Ornithology
15:39categories in 2024, 30% less than those sent in for consideration last year.
15:48For this edition's race, the historical Japan-set Epic Shogun led the way with 25 nods, including
15:55the one for Best Drama Series, a category that includes the final season of The Crown
15:59in addition to The Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Slow Horses and Three-Body
16:04Problem, as well as the acclaimed remake of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
16:09Dramedy The Bear has the second-most nominations overall with 23, including nods in the Best
16:14Comedy Series and Acting categories for stars Ayo Edevide, Jeremy Allen White and Puerto
16:19Rican Lisa ColĂłn-Zayas, among others, setting a new record for the most nominations in a
16:24single year for a comedy.
16:26This way, the show competes with sitcoms About Elementary, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks,
16:31Pomp Royale, Cult Favorite, What We Do in the Shadows, Only Murders in the Building
16:35and Reservation Dogs.
16:38Precisely, the final season of Reservation Dogs, which centers on a group of Native American
16:43teenagers, managed to nab the long-overdue nomination in addition of an acting nod for
16:48star DeFarao Unatay, while Murder Mystery Comedy, Only Murders in the Building, earned
16:5321 nominations, including those for its three main stars.
16:57A first for lead actress Selena Gomez, the fourth Latina to receive the honor in an edition
17:02that also sees Colombian Sofia Vergara become the first Latina to be nominated as lead actress

17:13as the first indigenous woman nominated for acting in the 76-year run of the awards.
17:21Other noteworthy nominations include the acting categories for drama as the lead actor
17:26race has Idris Elba, Gary Oldman and Dominic West facing off against Walton Goggins, Donald
17:31Glover and Hiroyuki Sanada, and the lead actress one has Imelda Staunton competing with Jennifer
17:37Aniston, Carrie Coon, Maya Erskine, Anna Saway and Reese Witherspoon.
17:44As the nominated celebrate, critics and fans alike have pointed out major snubs this year,
17:50notoriously in the limited series categories, the most competitive of the present edition,
17:55as it had only five slots, which resulted in shows like Masters of the Air, Fellow Travelers
18:00and Griselda being left out of major categories, as well as strong performances like those
18:05of Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman or recent Oscar winner Emma Stone.
18:11The final round of voting for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will begin on August 15 before
18:17closing on August 26, with the awards ceremony being held on Sunday, September 15 in Los Angeles.
