Filipinos share what they want to hear in #SONA2024

00:00Just like any Filipino citizen, lower house salons also have their own wish list,
00:05which they want to hear from the president during his State of the Nation Address, or SONA.
00:10Some of the lawmakers, though, are not merely content with just hoping,
00:14and will actually manifest what they want government to do through the clothes they wear.
00:19Again, Melales Moras tells us more.
00:24Three days before the third State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand R. Marquez, Jr.,
00:29several Filipinos have shared what they want to hear from the most anticipated speech of the president.
00:35I hope that the salary will increase for the employees,
00:40because here in the Philippines, the cost of living is increasing.
00:45I hope that the rice, groceries, money will be given,
00:51so that we can buy what we need.
00:55Every SONA, the chief executive usually reports on the achievements of his administration
01:00and delivers his future plans or new programs for the country.
01:04In a press conference today, the Center for Women's Resources also shared the issues
01:09that women want to be addressed in the president's SONA,
01:12based on a survey they conducted in Metro Manila.
01:15First, the creation of jobs and the livelihood of the people.
01:20Second, high prices.
01:24The high prices of goods, and not just goods,
01:29but also services and utilities.
01:34In our interviews, they always mention the price of rice.
01:42Recently, a separate survey by Pulse Asia Research,
01:46which had 2,400 respondents from different parts of the country,
01:50yielded similar results.
01:52Among the things our countrymen want to hear in the president's speech include
01:56controlling inflation, wage increase, fighting poverty, creation of more jobs,
02:01and intensifying the fight against gruff and corruption.
02:04If the lawmakers from the House of Representatives were to be asked,
02:08they are also eagerly awaiting President Marquez Jr.'s speech.
02:12According to House Speaker Marquez Jr. Valdez,
02:14from the SONA to the 2025 national budget,
02:17they are in full support of the administration.
02:20Asahan niyo, Mr. President, that we shall continue supporting your visionary projects
02:26that continue to help every Filipino.
02:31We are very, very proud to be working under your leadership.
02:34I assure you, in the upcoming budget, all of these programs and projects of yours
02:39will be fully supported by your House of Representatives.
02:42Meanwhile, other lawmakers have also given a glimpse of their SONA outfits.
02:47House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro will wear a terno,
02:50with a design depicting a family sharing on a meal table,
02:53symbolizing her call for the welfare of Filipino workers.
02:57While for Gabriela Portuguese Representative Arlene Brosas,
03:01she will highlight the might and strength of women in her Filipiniana garb.
