00:00Gridlock on the U.S.-Mexico border, one of the countless problems caused by this week's
00:06IT outage.
00:08It's going to take at least four hours to cross. I'm surprised that the United States
00:14has such advanced technology and they haven't been able to fix this failure.
00:19A failure in the border checks system meant locals who commute to the states every day
00:23were held back for hours. Massive global disruption was caused by a faulty software update released
00:29by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike for Microsoft users. The consequences were most
00:35dramatic for air travel.
00:37All internet is broken down and everything, so we are here. It's really crazy as you can
00:42see.
00:43I guess I'm just going to go back home. It's cancelled, I'm just going to have to re-book.
00:47Thousands of flights were cancelled around the world and airports from LA to Singapore
00:52were forced to check passengers in by hand. This map shows flights in the U.S. over a
00:5712-hour period.
01:02Healthcare, banking, shipping and broadcasting were also affected. Systems have been coming
01:07back online but backlogs will take days to resolve and insurers could face significant
01:12claims. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz apologised for the error.
01:18We're deeply sorry for the impact that we've caused to customers, to travellers, to anyone
01:23affected by this, including our companies.
01:26The extent of the damage reflects CrowdStrike's dominance of the market. Over half of Fortune
01:31500 companies and many government bodies use its software.
