00:00We are done with the update on the typhoon Karina and the strong winds.
00:04We will continue with Ms. Veronica Torres, weather specialist from Pagasa. Good morning.
00:11Good morning to you and to our viewers on the first line.
00:15First question, Ms. Veronica, where is the typhoon Karina now?
00:20Based on our latest data, earlier this morning at 4 a.m.,
00:23its center is located at a distance of 380 kilometers east of Aparic, Cagayan.
00:29This is also caused by the strong winds of 130 kilometers near the center and Bugso,
00:34which is about 160 kilometers per hour, moving in the direction of north-northwest at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
00:41Is there a chance for the typhoon to landfall? And if so, where can it landfall?
00:47At the moment, based on our latest forecast track,
00:50the chance of it landfalling is still low in any part of our country.
00:57Is it true, Ms. Veronica, that Cagayan Province is being hit hard by the typhoon Karina?
01:03If we look at the strong rains, for today, we can see moderate or heavy to intense rains,
01:11100 to 200 millimeters of rain, Batanes and Wabuyan Islands at 50 to 100 millimeters of rain.
01:18In Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Abra, Benguet, Apayaw, and Cagayan.
01:23Although, for today, we can still see rains in Cagayan Valley and Aurora.
01:30Is it still possible for the typhoon Karina to landfall and become a super typhoon?
01:35Well, if we look at the strength of the typhoon, it is still possible for it to landfall.
01:40We expect that by tomorrow, it will be possible for the typhoon to landfall.
01:45It is still possible for the typhoon to landfall, but it remains in the typhoon category.
01:50Although, we are not removing the possibility of rapid intensification.
01:56Will this forecast continue that by Wednesday night or Thursday morning, the typhoon Karina will emerge?
02:03Based on our latest analysis, we can see that between tomorrow evening and Thursday morning,
02:11it is possible for the typhoon to landfall, possibly in the northern portion of Taiwan.
02:17And then, a few hours later, we expect it to emerge in our Philippine area of responsibility.
02:23What other areas will be affected by the tropical cyclone wind signal due to the typhoon Karina?
02:29So, our highest is tropical cyclone wind signal number one.
02:33Here in Batanes, in Baboyan Islands, northern and eastern portion of mainland Cagayan,
02:40eastern portion of Isabela, northern portion of Apayau, northern portion of Ilocos Norte,
02:45northern portion of Aurora, Apolillo Islands, Calaguas Islands, and also the northern portion of Catanduanes.
02:53Last question, Ms. Veronica.
02:54How long will the tropical cyclone wind signal last in our country?
02:57Will the monsoon rains last until the end of this week?
03:02With regards to Habagat, we expect it to last until June 25, which is Thursday.
03:12It is possible for us to experience monsoon rains caused by Habagat.
03:16Although we are in the Habagat season, thunderstorms are still usual in the afternoon.
03:21And then, here in Metro Manila, until Thursday, Habagat, and then better weather conditions on Friday.
03:29Good morning. Thank you very much.
