The retired Penang ferry "Pulau Kapas" sank at the Butterworth Wharf on Tuesday (July 23).

Penang Port Commission (PPC) general manager Vijayaindiaran R. Visvalingam said efforts had been made to salvage the ferry to no avail.

00:14He said the hull of the ferry had been rotting for some time, with corrosion setting in after it was left parked at the wharf since 2018.
00:23The commission will hold a meeting to decide whether to salvage the ferry or proceed with its complete scrapping.
00:29Vijayandiaran added that there were no takers for ferries to be converted into restaurants due to the high cost.
00:36Pulau Kapas is one of four ferries decommissioned on December 31, 2020, alongside Pulau Undan, Pulau Payar and Pulau Talang-Talang.
