00:00Good day Manila Times viewers, this is Dea Samulish Ahluwala, and I'm here today for
00:07the first time covering the red carpet of the President's Honor.
00:14This is a very exciting occasion of course, as this is also going to be a fashion event,
00:19at least for the people in government.
00:21Let's try to find out some more about what they're wearing, and of course, how they feel
00:26about the upcoming message of the President.
00:29Stay with me, and I'll take you around the House of Congress on this very, very important day.
00:40What are you wearing today, if you may ask?
00:43I'm just, I'm wearing Athil.
00:45Very nice, very nice.
00:47I'm so excited to be here.
00:50I know.
00:51What are we wearing today, to this beautiful couple?
00:54Yes, I'm wearing a Raho Laurel fashion.
00:57The text was given to me by my friends from Mindanao, and I decided to ship from Luzon
01:03to Mindanao attire.
01:04It's the first time, right?
01:06Yes.
01:07And of course, Senator…
01:08Marong, Tagalog, Paul Cabral.
01:10Paul Cabral, as always.
01:12And what are you looking forward to in the speech of the President today?
01:16Well, this is his report card.
01:18He will mention what he has accomplished and what he wants to do in the next three years
01:24of his administration.
01:25And I hope he can provide solutions to the problems that still exist today.
01:31Transportation issues, issues with education.
01:35And I hope he can provide a solution to our problem of the increase in the number of children.
01:41Yeah, exactly.
01:42You heard her.
01:43Yes.
01:44Senator, how is the knee?
01:45We just want to know.
01:46Well, after three months and 14 days, I can walk now.
01:51Yes.
01:52But I still need three more months to run and jump.
01:56And jump.
01:57And do all the action scenes and everything.
02:00But we're very happy to see that you've been able to, you know, go around.
02:04And of course, attend the Salat.
02:06Salamat sa lahat na mga naglasal.
02:07Of course.
02:08We will continue praying.
02:09Thank you.
02:10Thank you very much.
02:11You look wonderful as always.
02:13One of the best dressed.
02:14Who are you wearing today?
02:16Martin Garner.
02:17So, any explanation why the color of choice today is blue?
02:21Anything?
02:22Any special reason for the color?
02:25Well, actually, I think this is the color for this year.
02:28This is the color.
02:29Yes, that's true.
02:30But the design is an old design by Martin Garner, 1927.
02:34Old?
02:35Yes.
02:36So, what is Senator wearing?
02:37Is he also wearing something from Martin?
02:40He's wearing something from Silko Ku.
02:42Silko Ku.
02:43Yes.
02:44What are you both looking forward to in the speech of the son of the President today?
02:49We're looking forward to, of course, what the President has to say, the accomplishments,
02:54especially in the topics that are important to the people, like the economy, response
03:01to, I guess, the people's expectations on social welfare services for them, as well
03:10as...
03:11We were just talking about what you and your wife are wearing.
03:14Apparently, this is...
03:15Your barong today is from...
03:16Silko Ku.
03:17Silko Ku.
03:18And is it special for today?
03:19Have you worn it before?
03:20No, it's my first time to wear it.
03:23It's your first time.
03:24And it looks very comfortable.
03:25Yes, yes.
03:26It has like that work mode, but also, you know, a fashionable feel to it.
03:31Do you think there will be...
03:33You'll have a moment also today at the SONAC, which bills do you think the President will
03:41mention?
03:42Well, just recently, just the other day, we passed the Anti-Financial Scamming Act, which
03:46I think is a very important bill.
03:48I was the principal author of that, so I was very happy that it was signed the other day.
03:52So, malaki bagay yan dahil ang dami ng siscam ngayon, and we need to update our laws to
03:57address that.
03:58Well, that's wonderful.
03:59So, we look forward to his speech there, of course, seeing you in the gallery as well,
04:03everyone.
04:04Very good to see you.
04:05Thank you.
04:06Thank you very much.
04:07We just wanted to know very quickly if you can tell us about your piece.
04:10So, this is a piece made by Dennis Lustico, and he's a Filipino designer.
04:15I absolutely love him.
04:16I think he's so creative.
04:18And we used natural fibers from pina, but also we wanted it to be a little bit kind
04:24of fun.
04:26And any reason why we chose the color green?
04:29Actually, he's the one who chose the color green, and so I just went with it.
04:32And it's very fresh, and very good for daytime.
04:35Yeah, why not?
04:36You look wonderful as always.
04:38You both look so wonderful as usual.
04:41So, who are we wearing today?
04:43Paul, of course.
04:44Paul, of course.
04:45Yes, yes.
04:46And what are you expecting from the President's message later on?
04:51Well, all of his programs are directed towards our new Philippines.
04:56And we at the 19th Congress support all of his programs and the direction that we want
05:03to take.
05:05So, this is made from pina fabric with calyada design and beadwork to showcase the rice.
05:14Because we know that we have a rice problem.
05:17What's your favorite thing about it?
05:20The use of pina.
05:21We know that pina now is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
05:25So, we are promoting this one.
05:28Why is fashion school in the Philippines so important?
05:32You know, fashion is an industry, right?
05:35So, for example, this fabric.
05:37The farmers, you know, the ones who bring their crops.
05:41They are the ones who harvest.
05:43Then, another group, they are the ones who harvest.
05:46Then, there's the one who sows.
05:47So, it's an industry.
05:49It's a sustainable type of industry.
05:53And then, grass roots are the ones who reach.
05:57Of course, you've had such an interesting history in Besona.
06:00You know what I mean?
06:01Yes.
06:02Every year has been such a winner.
06:03Yes.
06:04And this is your last one.
06:05Yes.
06:06For now.
06:07And you've chosen, you know, to wear this.
06:09Usually, we are colored, right?
06:11But this time, you've chosen this wide, low-key color.
06:16Well, right?
06:17Because Pina, in its natural state, is very beautiful, right?
06:21So, that's why when you were discussing my outfit with Ran,
06:26we wanted to go back to the basics.
06:29Yes, that's true.
06:30And year after year, after that time here,
06:34you've all forgotten already.
06:35Yes.
06:36You've been a winner every year.
06:37Thank you.
06:38Really.
06:39And how does it feel walking each time in Besona
06:41wearing something that you know people are wearing?
06:44It's been a fun journey.
06:48You know, for a while, the expectation,
06:53the way they wait for the president's speech,
06:56the way they wait for my outfit.
06:59Just means you're a star.
07:01Wonderful.
07:02You look amazing.
07:03Thank you.
07:04Top, top marks.
07:05Thank you.
07:06What are you wearing today?
07:07So, I'm wearing a Rens Reyes today, a very new designer.
07:11So, I'm helping him out in his career by wearing his outfit today.
07:15And it's still very simple, you know, no structure.
07:18But still, you know, still simple and all that.
07:21So, what are you expecting to do in Besona?
07:24What do you hope that he will do?
07:26You know, the president is the very first president
07:28that ever spoke about climate.
07:30That's why.
07:31And I'm an advocate for climate.
07:33So, I'm hoping that more concrete plans that he will present
07:37for the next coming months and years.
07:39So, that's my first advocacy.
07:42So, hopefully, he'll be able to tackle that.
07:44So, what is your outfit today?
07:46Is there a shirt inside?
07:48Is there an important print?
07:50This is Barong Tagalog.
07:52This is Barong Kasaysayan.
07:54This is our project.
07:56It's been four years already.
07:58We've been showing stories of what's happening in the Philippines.
08:01This is freedom.
08:02This is the jarion of the government.
08:04Okay.
08:05Okay.
08:06So, this is an actual print from the jarion.
08:09Yes, ma'am.
08:10This is a project of one of our professors.
08:12Yes, wonderful.
08:13So, Robin, because since you won,
08:15we haven't been able to interview you
08:17although we've been wanting to do this for a long time.
08:19I just noticed, you know,
08:21you've underdrafted.
08:22You look beautiful in Sinaloa.
08:24You know, you dyed your hair.
08:28You know, you have long hair.
08:31Is that intentional on your part?
08:33No, ma'am.
08:34It's just that there's a chance that I'm doing a movie
08:37that I need to finish.
08:38So, you'll continue?
08:39Because, you know,
08:40as a candidate,
08:41I don't have a plan.
08:42Right?
08:43I'm just planning.
08:44If I'm doing a movie,
08:45I'll pay for it.
08:46I need to finish it.
08:49You know, you've always had this wonderful fashion sense.
08:51And true enough,
08:52you're wearing such a wonderful piece today.
08:54Where is it?
08:55Who designed it?
08:56Mr. George O'Neal.
08:57Okay.
08:58He has been designing all of my Filipinianas
09:00and all of my gowns for the longest time.
09:03And always, you know,
09:04I mean, your sense of style
09:06isn't just always the traditional.
09:07There's always, you know,
09:08a certain touch to it.
09:09Is that your style?
09:10Did you tell your designer
09:11that I kind of want a little bit of an oomph to it?
09:15Of course, of course.
09:16Something really simple, clean lines,
09:19but something with a little glow on it.
09:22Yes, of course.
09:23And you have to have a figure for it,
09:25which is perfect.
09:26Thank you, thank you.
09:27I mean, anything you put on her.
09:29Of course.
09:30We're so happy to always see
09:31people from Showbiz on the red carpet,
09:33but of course, as Vice Mayor of Manila.
09:35What are you wearing today?
09:36Chorubyo.
09:37Chorubyo.
09:38And is it a little Muslim?
09:40No, it's not.
09:42It's from Baguio.
09:44It's from Baguio.
09:45Oh, yes, our weavers there.
09:47It's a great barong.
09:48Nice to see you again.
09:49Thank you.
09:50Thank you.
09:51You both look striking on the red carpet.
09:52What are we wearing for today?
09:54I'm wearing Martin Tuazo.
09:56I'm styled by Abby Paulino.
09:59And you?
10:00Local designer.
10:07How long did it take you to dress up for today?
10:11An hour and a half.
10:13Yes, nothing much to do.
10:16I was carrying it, so it's a perfect look.
10:19Thank you, ma'am.
10:20It's wonderful to see you in the gallery.
10:22Thank you, ma'am.
10:23What is our look today?
10:25This is the essence of modern Maria Clara.
10:30It's very elegant and easy to wear.
10:34Yes, and of course, your trademark colors.
10:36Color and red, and your background with gray.
10:40Focusing on peace and justice.
10:44And good health for the people.
10:46Does a modern Filipina need to stop?
10:49Not really.
10:50Not really?
10:51It's okay?
10:52It's already in your heart?
10:53Yes, it is.
10:54It's great to see you, ma'am.
10:56What are you wearing today?
10:58Michael Dave.
11:01What are you over?
11:03Louis Vuitton.
11:06Louis Vuitton? Jet, huh?
11:08I didn't know that.
11:09I didn't know that.
11:10I didn't know that.
11:11But only Jet?
11:12Yes, only Jet.
11:13Okay, what are you expecting from the sauna today?
11:16Well, to be honest, I'm very excited because
11:20Kuya Chase is the Senate President.
11:24So I'm very excited to see him in front.
11:26He said that usually he's just an audience,
11:29but for the first time, he's in front.
11:32But you know, as usual, I'm excited to hear all the accomplishments.
11:36Of course, the Congress and Senate have a lot of accomplishments
11:39for the past year and their future plans.
11:42Usually, you mix and match.
11:45But is this just a one piece?
11:47Ah, this is a top, and a pinuelo, and a skirt.
11:51But the pinia cloth is from a collection from decades ago in Paol.
11:57And I took out my pinia collection.
11:59I gave it to Pui, who creatively designed.
12:02He put together all of this.
12:04You know, Pui was a poster boy in Samar when I first ran in 98.
12:10He's now a well-known designer.
12:12I'm so proud.
12:13And as always, you look wonderful.
12:15Thank you, Tessa.
12:16There you have all of the exciting looks.
12:19And, of course, a little bit of the chit-chat from the red carpet
12:22at President Marcos III's inauguration here at the House of Congress.
12:26I hope you enjoyed your time here with me.
12:28This is Tessa Bolshoy.
12:29We will see you next time.
