00:00Thomas is a tank engine who lives at a big station on the island of Sodor.
00:06He's a cheeky little engine with six small wheels, a short stumpy funnel, a short stumpy boiler and a short stumpy dome.
00:23He's a fussy little engine too, always pulling coaches about ready for the big engines to take on long journeys.
00:29And when trains come in, he pulls the empty coaches away so that the big engines can go and rest.
00:44Thomas thinks no engine works as hard as he does. He loves playing tricks on them, including Gordon, the biggest and proudest engine of all.
00:52Thomas likes whistling rudely at him.
00:55Wake up lazy bones, why don't you work hard like me?
01:04One day after pulling the big express, Gordon had arrived back at the side and was very tired.
01:10He was just going to sleep when Thomas came up in his cheeky way.
01:14Wake up lazy bones, do some hard work for a change, you can't catch me!
01:18And off he ran laughing.
01:21Instead of going to sleep again, Gordon thought how he could get back at Thomas.
01:26One morning Thomas wouldn't wake up. His driver and fireman couldn't make him start.
01:31His fire went out and there was not enough steam.
01:34It was nearly time for the express. People were waiting but the coaches weren't ready.
01:42At last Thomas started.

01:49Oh dear, oh dear, he yawned.
01:53He fussed into the station where Gordon was waiting.
01:56Hurry up you, said Gordon.
01:58Hurry yourself, replied Thomas.
02:01Gordon began making his plan.
02:05Yes, said Gordon, I will.
02:08And almost before the coaches had stopped moving, Gordon reversed quickly and was coupled to the train.
02:14Get in quickly please, he whistled.
02:17Thomas usually pushed behind the big trains to help them start, but he was always uncoupled first.
02:23This time Gordon started so quickly they forgot to uncouple Thomas.
02:27Gordon's chance had come.
02:30Come on, come on, puffed Gordon to the coaches.
02:35The train went faster and faster, too fast for Thomas.
02:39He wanted to stop but he couldn't.
02:41Peep, peep, stop, stop.
02:44Hurry, hurry, hurry, laughed Gordon.
02:46You can't get away, you can't get away, laughed the coaches.
02:49Hurry, hurry, hurry, laughed Gordon.

03:00Poor Thomas was going faster than he had ever gone before.
03:03He was out of breath and his wheels hurt him, but he had to go on.
03:07I shall never be the same again, he thought sadly.
03:10My wheels will be quite worn out.
03:20Peep, peep, stop, stop.
03:27At last they stopped at a station.
03:35Thomas was uncoupled and he felt very silly and exhausted.
03:40Next he went on to a turntable, thinking of everyone laughing at him.
03:50And then he ran on to a siding out of the way.
03:54Well, little Thomas, chuckled Gordon, now you know what hard work means, don't you?
04:00Poor Thomas couldn't answer.
04:02He had no breath.
04:03He just puffed slowly away to rest and had a long, long drink.
04:11He went home very slowly and was careful afterwards never to be cheeky to Gordon again.
