00:00Percy and the Calliope.
00:04The engines on Sodor work hard to keep the island clean and tidy.
00:12There is always rubbish to be removed, scrap to be scrapped, and junk to be junked.
00:20But the engines are always happy because they all want to be really useful.
00:28One day, Percy and Diesel were collecting scrap.
00:32Their last stop was the Duke and Duchess of Boxford Summer House.
00:37The Duchess had a very unusual piece of junk for them.
00:42What is it, Mum?
00:44It is a Calliope.
00:46A Calliope is an organ that played music at summer fairs years ago.
00:52Sadly, this one has been forgotten about and left outside to rust.
00:57Percy's eyes were wide with wonder.
01:01Oh, my!
01:03So now, I'm afraid you must take it to the smelter's yard.
01:08It has to be scrapped.
01:10Yes, Duchess.
01:12So Percy and Diesel coupled up to the Calliope.
01:17Wouldn't it be wonderful to hear the Calliope play music again?
01:21Ha! It's just a jumble of junk.
01:24The sooner it's scrapped, the better.
01:26But Percy didn't think the organ was junk.
01:30He thought it was special.
01:32If I can make the Calliope work, it won't have to be scrapped.
01:37This made Diesel hoot with laughter.
01:40Ha-ha-ha-ha! That tangle of tubes!
01:43That pile of old pipes!
01:45Have you popped a piston? Ha-ha-ha-ha!
01:48Percy's wheels wobbled.
01:50He didn't want to look silly in front of Diesel,
01:53but he didn't want the Calliope to be scrapped either.
01:57I will make it play before we get to the smelter's yard.
02:05The two engines heaved and hauled the heavy scrap.
02:10Percy puffed and panted as he pushed the trucks.
02:15Bust my buffers! This is hard work.
02:18I must stop for more water.
02:21So Percy and Diesel stopped at the water tower.
02:25Diesel grumped.
02:27Ha! Diesels never have to stop for water.
02:31We have to stop, Diesel. Steamies can't work without water.
02:36An idea popped in Percy's pistons.
02:39Maybe water will make the Calliope work too.
02:43So Percy rolled backwards.
02:47Diesel was surprised.
02:49Water splished and splashed into the organ pipes.
02:54Percy listened for the sound of music,
02:57but the only sound was a strange gurgling and a groaning and a glugging
03:03that made the Calliope shudder and shake.
03:11Diesel laughed loudly.
03:13Percy's face flushed. He hadn't fixed the Calliope.
03:17I'm sure I can make this Calliope play.
03:23The two engines trundled onto the smelter's yard.
03:27Percy's firebox flickered and fizzed.
03:31Bust my buffers! Pushing scrap is hard work.
03:35Diesel, I have to stop for more coal.
03:39So Percy and Diesel stopped at the coal hopper.
03:43Diesel hooted huffily.
03:45Ha! Diesels never have to stop for coal.
03:49Diesel, all steamies need coal.
03:53An idea began to bubble in Percy's boiler.
03:57So Percy rolled backwards and surprised Diesel again.
04:02Coal clattered and clanged into the organ pipes.
04:07What are you doing now?
04:09Coal makes me work. Maybe coal will make the Calliope work.
04:16Suddenly a big cloud of coal dust puffed out of the Calliope.
04:21Percy was covered in soot from footplate to fender.
04:26Diesel chortled and chuckled.
04:28Percy's face flushed. He still hadn't fixed the Calliope.
04:33He still hadn't fixed the Calliope.
04:36I'm sure I can make this Calliope play.
04:39Ha! Ha! Ha!
04:44Percy and Diesel clickety clacked along the tracks.
04:48Now they were nearly at the smelter's yard.
04:51Percy was worried. Soon the organ would be scrapped.
04:57Then the engines had to stop at a crossing.
05:01The Fat Controller was there with his car. It would not start.
05:06Can we help you, sir?
05:08No, thank you, Percy.
05:10The Fat Controller's helpers struggled and strained
05:14to push the car faster and faster until the engines started.
05:23Percy and Diesel rattled on.
05:27Percy had a plan.
05:29Pushing the Fat Controller's car made it start.
05:32Perhaps if I push the Calliope, it will play.
05:39So wheel turn by wheel turn,
05:42Percy pushed the Calliope faster and faster.
05:47The organ rattled and raced along the track.
05:51The pipes clattered and clacked, but no music played.
05:56I must push fast. I must save it from the smelter's yard.
06:01The Calliope rattled along in front of Percy, but still no music played.
06:08Then there was trouble.
06:11Percy was at the top of Gordon's hill.
06:14He stopped, but the Calliope didn't.
06:17The coupling had snapped.
06:20Bust my buffers!
06:22The Calliope rattled and raced down the hill.
06:27With a crash and a bash, it smashed off the track.
06:34Oh, no!
06:36Percy felt terrible.
06:38The Calliope is sure to be scrapped now.
06:42Percy sighed.
06:45Steam swirled from his pistons and whimpered from his whistle.
06:51That's the only music I've heard all day.
06:55That made an idea begin to bubble in Percy's boiler.
07:00Whistling whistles.
07:03Now I know how to make the Calliope play.
07:09Percy's driver connected a hose from Percy's cylinder drain to the Calliope.
07:15Steam shot into the organ.
07:18The Calliope let out a rasp and a pop and a wheeze.
07:23But then, with a cough and a splutter, it began to play.
07:31Percy beamed from buffer to buffer.
07:35Then the Fat Controller arrived.
07:38Percy, what is making that music?
07:42It's the Calliope, sir.
07:44We were told to take it to the smelter's yard.
07:47But I got it to work.
07:49Well done, Percy. I am very proud of you.
07:54You have saved an important piece of Sodor's history.
07:59Percy peeped with pride.
08:02Take it to the Steamworks. Victor will fix it properly.
08:07Yes, sir.
08:11At the Steamworks, the Calliope was painted and polished.
08:16The brass pipes gleamed in the sun.
08:20Percy puffed proudly.
08:23Everybody wanted to hear the Calliope play.
08:26Percy fired his furnace, bubbled his boiler and shot steam into the Calliope.
08:34It was the sweetest sound on Sodor.
