00:00Now, the eye of the storm has left Taiwan and is on the way to China.
00:04Our reporter Louise Wat joins us now from Hsinchu in northwestern Taiwan with the latest.
00:09I'm at a fishing port that has now become a restricted area.
00:16The Coast Guard says that's for safety reasons because we're along the west coast.
00:21And it was here where Typhoon Kaimi left Taiwan early Thursday, bringing lots of rain and
00:27heavy winds.
00:29And it's still having an impact across Taiwan, particularly in mountainous areas in the center
00:34and the south of the country.
00:36Some of those areas saw more than a meter of rainfall.
00:41And the winds knocked down trees and power lines.
00:45Actually, more than half a million households across Taiwan lost power, although most of
00:50those are back online, according to the main power company here.
00:55The typhoon is still making its presence felt because all schools and offices have
01:02been closed across Taiwan on Thursday, apart from actually Taiwan's chip giant, TSMC, which
01:10is just a 20-minute drive away from here.
01:13It says that operations are continuing normally.
01:16But as you can see, today's not a great day for planes to be in the sky, and flights have
01:20been canceled for a second day in a row.
01:23185 international flights have been canceled and all domestic flights, so that's about
01:27another 200 flights.
01:31And trains are not running at the moment.
01:33They will be starting up again gradually from Thursday afternoon.
01:38So even though the typhoon has left Taiwan, the weather administration is warning people
01:45that it still poses a threat.
01:47And it's reminding people not to go to mountain areas because of the risk of landslides and
01:52falling rocks.
