Team GB legend Greg Rutherford has backed a campaign to get kids to eat more fruit and veg – after it emerged just 23 per cent are getting their five-a-day.

The former long jumper, who won gold at the 2012 Olympics, is well experienced in trying to get his three children excited about the likes of carrots, apples, and oranges.

And he’s not alone - 36 per cent of parents admit they find this “challenging.”

Following the poll of 1,500 mums and dads, Greg has teamed up with innocent [lower case - CORR] Drinks, which also commissioned the research, to launch the ‘innocent crushing it summer games’ at the Olympic Park in Stratford.

The free two-day pop-up event [https://tinyurl.com/35edb7zz] which runs 9am to 5pm starting today [Thursday 25 July] gives families the chance to squash, squeeze and crush fruit and veg to create their own smoothies, using creative and quirky sports-themed contraptions.

These include an exercise bike doubling as a blender, a rowing machine transformed into a banana boat, and a basketball hoop which produces freshly squeezed orange juice.

00:00Oh no, it bounced out!
00:06I'm here at Olympic Park for the Instant Crush and It's Summer Games and it's all about making
00:10fruit and veg exciting, getting it into kids and making them excited.
00:13On your mark, get set, go!
00:19Fruit and veg can be an absolute nightmare to get into children.
00:22They don't always have a positive association with it and it's something that I think people
00:26now have started to forget the importance of it.
00:29So an event like this today where people can come down, see it, have some fun with it is
00:33a great way to re-invigorate kids.
00:37That was delicious.
00:44My favourite fruit and veg, well I'm probably going to go fruit, mango and veg, cabbage.
00:53What a mix!
00:56We're here at the Instant Summer Crush and It Games, we've got some fantastic machines.
01:00We've got the blender bike over here which looks absolutely fantastic, a blender on the
01:04front of a bike, of course.
01:05And again, we've got things like the bunch press, nice play on words there.
01:09Let's go for it.
01:10Ah, you got it first time!
01:16It's fantastic being back in the Olympic Park, for me this holds one of the greatest memories
01:19of my life and literally walking around I still can picture it as it was during the
01:24Olympics.
01:25Hi guys, all coming!
01:26How are we going?
01:27Right, give me high fives.
