Fola David has created the world's largest individual drawing, highlighting Nigeria's rich ethnic diversity and earning him a place in the Guinness World Records book. DW correspondent Olisa Chukwumah went to Lagos to witness the crowning moment.

00:00Another Nigerian has broken a Guinness World Record.
00:03Fola David set a new record for the world's largest drawing by an individual.
00:08The drawing is a map of Nigeria,
00:10with a detail depicting the country's different ethnic groups.
00:13It is 1,000 square meters.
00:15That's about the size of one and a half tennis courts.
00:18It took Fola David six days to complete a drawing inside the stadium in Lagos.
00:22I just want people to understand that there's beauty in Nigeria.
00:29And there's beauty in our cultures, and there's beauty in our diversity.
00:39Him winning this means all the Nigerians have won.
00:42It's something that's very inspiring.
00:44This is going to really bring the spotlight to art in Nigeria.
00:47It just means that Nigeria is an incredible country,
00:51rich with so many things, down to our resources, talent, the people.
00:56We are unique.
00:57Fola David is the latest Nigerian to break a Guinness World Record.
01:01Before him, Hilda Bassi broke the record for the longest cooking marathon.
01:05Since the success of Bassi and others,
01:07the Guinness World Records body says there's been a rise in the number of West Africans
01:11attempting to set new records.
01:13So what's behind this wave?
01:15Well, here in Nigeria, these records are about national pride and celebrating culture.
01:19There is, of course, the elements of clout and fame, especially with social media.
01:24Fola David says for him, this record is about using art
01:27to encourage unity in a culturally diverse country like Nigeria.
