00:03Regarding Vice President Harris, the group Black Lives Matter recently came out against

00:07her presumptive nomination for the Democratic nomination, which is going to happen without

00:12a public vote.

00:13They said that delegates are not oligarchs and that there needs to be a public vote on

00:17her nomination to complete that process.

00:20As someone who's going to be attending the Democratic convention later next month, what

00:24do you say to groups like Black Lives Matter and others that think that the legitimacy

00:29of this presumptive nominee is probably not complete without a public vote and think that

00:34the process is oligarchic right now?

00:36What do you say to them?

00:37Well, it's unclear to me which specific group you're talking about.

00:39There are a variety of different Black Lives Matter chapters across the country.

00:45There's no one national organization, and so it's hard to respond without understanding

00:51the context, other than to say Kamala Harris is the presumptive nominee for a reason.

00:56She has excited, energized, and united Democrats all across the country, and that will be reflected,

01:05in my view, in the vote of the delegates, who have the ultimate power to determine who

01:14represents the Democratic Party at the top of the ticket.

01:18There is a process that has been set forth by the Rules Committee of the DNC, by which

01:27anyone can petition to secure enough delegate support to get their name placed into consideration

01:39to be the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party.

01:44That's an open, available, and accessible process, but Vice President Kamala Harris,

01:51because of the strength of her vision, her ideas, and her track record, has all but cleared

01:59the field, not from the top down, but from the grassroots up.
