00:00Welcome back to the Olympic Paralympic World!
00:29Thank you for making a little bit of time in your schedule to come be with us.
00:39Oh yeah, we're looking forward to this.
00:41I have our whole delegation.
00:43Come on in!
00:45Senator Brian, we've met, it's nice to see you.
00:47Mayor Bass, it's a pleasure.
00:49Nice to see you.
00:51Brian, welcome home.
00:53It's great to see you.
00:55Thank you so much for having us.
00:57Mayor Bass, it's a pleasure to see you.
00:59Hi, nice to meet you.
01:01Hello, nice to see you.
01:03Come on in.
01:05Hi, nice to see you.
01:07Coach, how are you?
01:09Hey Doug!
01:11How are you?
01:13I'm good, how are you?
01:15It's good to see you.
01:17I just want to tell you a little bit about the facility here.
01:19So this is Athletica.
01:21I'm the Chief of Sport for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
01:24And we found this location in 2018, actually.
01:28So we do our homework just like all of you do.
01:30And this is our home away from home.
01:32So what we did is we transported our Colorado Springs Olympic and Paralympic Training Center here.
01:36We have sports medicine here.
01:38We have food and dining halls.
01:40They've rebuilt the entire facility for us.
01:42A hundred rooms, a new kitchen, a new sports training facility for us.
01:46So it's totally integrated services for our athletes.
01:49And this is really for us, again, our home away from home.
01:52So we're glad you can be here.
01:54We have about 25 sports to train here throughout the games.
01:57Athletes will be in and out every day.
01:59We had 300 meals served yesterday, just at lunch.
02:01So this is really, it's only 15 minutes from the Athletes Village as well.
02:04So it's really been a perfect location for us.
02:07And let me add a very special experience that you can see.
02:10We call it the Team USA Welcome Experience.
02:12And there's a reason for that.
02:14As athletes walk through this door at the beginning,
02:16we take them into an experience that is curated and crafted for them
02:20as the moment to say, you've arrived.
02:23You've made it. You made the team.
02:25And part of that is getting what we affectionately call the kit, right?
02:29All the goods that says Team USA.
02:31Brian, you're nodding. You remember this well?
02:34It is the moment at which we take great care of you.
02:38And so inside these doors is a series of hallways
02:41with many of our apparel partners and our product partners
02:44who are going to send these athletes home
02:47with literally duffel bags full of things that they can wear
02:50to show off the fact that they've made the team.
02:52And the special part of it for us is that both Nike and Ralph Lauren
02:56have plenty of apparel inside here, but we also have a team of tailors.
03:00And so these athletes are not only going to get a bag of things,
03:04but they're going to get it custom fitted to their bodies
03:06so that they feel their best and they feel well taken care of
03:10as they walk, or in this case, as they float down the Seine tomorrow night.
03:15And as they stand on the podium, if they should be so lucky to do that,
03:18that they're going to feel very good in what they have on
03:21and they're going to be proud for the world to see them.
03:23So it's a fun experience.
03:25Many of our Paralympians in particular say it is the only time in their life
03:28that anybody's ever made clothing that actually is suited for them.
03:32Whether it's an amputation or something else, it's a very special experience.
03:36So this is sort of, this is the beginning of a great experience
03:40for the athletes here while we're in town.
03:43So it's a bit of a special side of the training.
03:46Then we send them back and we tell them to go back to work.
03:49So what we're going to do with all of you today is spend just a few minutes
03:53showing you a little bit about what's going on.
03:56I think we'll walk over.
03:57The women's rugby team is training as we speak.
04:01Take a couple minutes to stop and meet them and talk with them.
04:04And then we're going to go back around and stop with some of our track and field.
04:08I believe there might be relay practice happening, which is always fun.
04:12Dr. Biden, we think you're going to have some baton passing.
04:15You're wearing the right shoes.
04:17Before we do that, can we take a picture here in front of the welcoming center?
04:20Yeah.
04:42Okay.
05:12The Olympics?
05:31Yep.
05:32I'm doing the power walking.
05:35I've got to represent the U.S. dance and we don't have representation.
05:38We don't want you guys to miss anything.
05:45Come on.
05:54Say you're doing a CNN story.
05:56I don't know what your ethics policy is.
05:58It's not that.
06:21Since they're active.
06:30Okay.
07:01Yeah, pretty much.
07:29I'll get out of your shot.
07:47I'm not.
08:15Fresh off the field.
08:30I'm not.
08:31My hands.
08:32Okay.
08:33So Dr.
08:34Yeah, because we're done.
09:05We're going to go over this way.

26:06I'm Alex Padilla, United States Senator representing California.

26:14I'm Jill Biden, number three.
26:18I'm representing all Americans and wishing you good luck.
26:24Our hearts are behind you.
26:27I hope you know that 100%.
26:29So, do you want to introduce yourselves to us?
26:31I'm going to.
26:32Dr. Biden, I'm going to have you move two steps forward this way so the flag doesn't take us out.
26:36Okay, that's perfect.
26:37There we go.
26:39So, I'm Latonya Sheffield.
26:40I am the women's head coach for our track and field Olympic team.
26:44I'm also a citizen of Los Angeles County.
26:47I'm from Long Beach, Long Beach State, as a matter of fact.
26:50So, I know you guys.
26:53Hi, I'm Gabby, and I'm a member of the Team U of A sprint team.
26:57Where are you from?
26:58I'm originally from Atlanta, Georgia, and now I live in Austin, Texas.
27:03My name is Melissa Jefferson.
27:05I'm here for the Blue Lake team, of course, and also the Olympic leaders.
27:09I'm from Georgetown, South Carolina, and I trained in Wilmer Wood.
27:15Good man.
27:16I'm Daryl Woodson.
27:17I'm from Texas.
27:18I'm on the Relay Coaches for the United States team.
27:20Thanks for coming out, and thanks for having us.
27:22Appreciate you, sir.
27:23I'm Samari Davis.
27:24I'm here for the Relay team.
27:25I am from Greenville, Florida, and I train for the Aquasports.
27:30I live in Orlando, Florida.
27:34I'm Aliyah Hobbs.
27:35I'm here for the Relay.
27:37I'm from New Orleans, Louisiana, and I trained at LSU.
27:41And I'm Michelle Freeman.
27:42I'm the Head Women's Relay Coach, and I'm from Prince George County, Maryland.
27:46And Michelle, give us a little more background than that.
27:49I'm a 2008 Olympian, yes, and I competed in the 4x100 meter relays as well.
27:54And now I'm here leading this group of ladies, and we are going to do a drill.
27:57One of our drills with you.
28:02So we are going to see if it will be okay if you can be our first leg.
28:05Sure.
28:06Okay, and do one of our stationary drills.
28:08Okay.
28:09Okay, so I'm going to teach you how you're going to do this.
28:11You're going to line up in the lanes right here.
28:13You're going to be first leg, but you're going to stand here.
28:15Now, if you're first leg, that means you're running on the other side of the lane.
28:19Okay, you're going to hold the baton in your right hand.
28:21Okay, you've got to have it at the bottom so it's enough to stick the pass.
28:24Okay.
28:25Alright, so you've got to have enough space.
28:27You want to push it right in.
28:28Okay.
28:29Okay, so your job is here.
28:30Alright.
28:31Yes, alright.
28:32She got you.
28:33Okay.
28:34And then once you push it in, you make sure.
28:36Oh!
28:37I don't need it!
28:38Yeah!
28:39I don't need it!
28:40So all you've got to do, the key word for her to know to take it is stick.
28:43Okay.
28:44And then she knows to put her hand back.
28:45Alright.
28:46Alright, y'all got it ladies?
28:47Alright.
28:48So I just do it right now.
28:49So you're going to say stick first.
28:50We're going to go through it one time, and then we're going to do it fast.
28:51Okay.
28:52Okay, this is our test.
28:53Okay.
28:54Alright, here we go.
28:55So you're going to say stick.
28:56Okay.
28:57Stick!
28:58Oh!
28:59Stick!
29:01Stick!
29:03Stick!
29:04Okay, that was our test run.
29:05Now we're going to do it fast.
29:06Okay?
29:07So I'm going to do it.
29:08You do the same thing.
29:09Alright.
29:10Okay?
29:11This time when you say stick, you're going to take a second.
29:12Make sure you see the target so you know exactly where to put it.
29:15So stick.
29:16And I know it sounds counterproductive, but you're going to take that one breath to be
29:19patient to know exactly where to place it.
29:21And then that's all you have to do.
29:23What a good teacher!
29:25Yes!
29:26Yes!
29:27Alright.
29:28Alright, ladies.
29:29Are we timing this?
29:30We're going to time it.
29:31The fastest we did today was 1.1.
29:32Oh, no!
29:33We've got to see if we're going to go faster.
29:34Okay?
29:35You got it, ladies?
29:36Alright, here we go.
29:37Ready?
29:38Oh!
29:39I'm fine.
29:40I got it.
29:41I got it.
29:42I got it.
29:43I'm fine.

29:51I got it.
29:52I got it.
29:53I got it.
29:54I got it.
29:55I got it.

30:07I know.
30:08I don't know.
30:09Might have to replace somebody.
30:10But yeah, that's what we've been doing.
30:11We just finished our last day of relay camp, so we're ready.
