00:00So Jen leads the White House Gender Policy Council that President Biden established.
00:07And thank you for the incredible work that you do to advance gender equity in the United
00:14States and actually around the world.
00:17So I'm so glad to be here with our ambassador, Bauer, Denise, who is not only a tremendous
00:24leader but also a dear friend, and with our mayor of L.A., Karen Bass of the great city
00:33of Los Angeles.
00:41So we just came from cheering on some incredible Team USA athletes, and we just saw women's
00:49water polo.
00:50Like, we had never seen it.
00:51Like, how many of you have seen women's water polo?
00:56Like, five?
00:57Five.
00:58Come on, guys.
00:59You have to, like, go see it, because it's incredible, and they have more games to play.
01:05And we won.
01:06We won against Greece.
01:07I tell you, it was so much fun, wasn't it?
01:08So, of course, Dawn had to tell us, like, all the different plays and everything, because
01:20we were like, what does this mean?
01:23How long does this go?
01:24Anyway, the girls are incredible.
01:27And even now, away from the lights and the roar of the crowd, I still, well, you can
01:33tell, I still feel swept up in their magic.
01:36And I'm sure that you felt it, too, the thrill of that last-second shot.
01:42You know, the football that shaves off that last half a second.
01:46Watching as someone puts all those years of hope and hard work into one final swing or
01:54parry, and they're part of a legacy that shows us, really, that there are no limits to our
02:00potential.
02:01And this year's games have a special distinction.
02:05The last time that the Olympics were in Paris, less, honestly, less than 5% of the athletes
02:14were women.
02:16Isn't that hard to believe?
02:18So now, a century later, almost the same number of women and men are competing in Paris.
02:33So these Olympic Games are the closest we've ever come to gender parity.
02:38But it's not just the Olympics where women are front and center.
02:42Women's sports are everywhere, and more people are watching than ever before.
02:48But even as so many more women take to the court or fly down the field, what we know
02:55about women's health and sports simply hasn't kept pace.
03:00And that's because women's health is understudied and research is underfunded.
03:08And we have significant gaps in our understandings of conditions that mostly affect women, or
03:15only affect women, or affect women differently.
03:20And as a result, all women have had to navigate a medical world largely designed by men, or
03:28for men.
03:29Well, both, probably.
03:31And rely on medications and treatments and health products and medical school textbooks
03:37based on men.
03:40And it's not just elite athletes.
03:43If you ask any woman about her health care, she likely has a story to tell.
03:50You all know her.
03:52She's the woman who tore her ACL with a long road to recovery.
03:58She's the woman whose concussion symptoms linger and linger.
04:03She's the woman wondering why it took so long to treat her fibroids.
04:08And she's the woman going through menopause, you know, who sits with her doctor and leaves
04:15with more questions than answers.
04:18And don't all women have questions?
04:21You know, yes, they're all raising their hands.
04:24Yes, we do.
04:25Yes.
04:26But, you know, like, should I take hormone therapy?
04:29Should I take supplements?
04:31Why is my hair thinning?
04:33Why can't I sleep?
04:35Well, now it's time for answers.
04:38And that's why the Biden-Harris administration is fundamentally changing how our nation approaches
04:45and funds women's health research.
04:50And last year, as you said, we launched the first ever White House initiative on women's
04:56health research.
04:58And earlier this year, as Michelle said, Michelle and I stood with President Biden, with Joe,
05:06and so many other incredible leaders in this space as he took the most comprehensive executive
05:14action in history to advance research on women's health.
05:19And he's called on Congress to provide $12 billion to push this work further.
05:27Women and girls show us every day how they can soar on the field or in the arena.
05:35They inspire us to work harder, to get back up when we fall, to keep reaching for the
05:42endless possibilities in each of us.
05:46And that's why we're all here.
05:48By investing in women's health research, we can ensure that our athletes and all women
05:55can keep reaching for those bright tomorrows ahead.
06:00And thanks to all of you, the momentum feels unstoppable.
06:06We can't let this moment pass us by.
06:10Together, we have the power to find answers.
06:14For the little girl who dreams of scoring that game-winning goal, dashing past the finish
06:21line, dunking in the Olympics, and for all the women who want to cheer her through those
06:28long, healthy, and happy lives, thank you.
06:34Thank you all for your dedication.
06:37Thanks.
07:09Okay.
07:16Do we have to add a little bit?
07:22Can we change it?
07:26So, we are, thank you so much, by the way.
