00:24Hi I'm Emily. I'm the coach of East Coast Warriors Cheer and Dance.
00:28Now you've had some very exciting news, haven't you? Tell us all about it.
00:32Yes, so we attended a cheerleading competition in Nottingham.
00:36It was the ICC Nationals Part 2, at which we took five teams
00:41and one of them, our Senior Level 1 team,
00:44come home with a winning bid to go to America in May 2025
00:51to represent East Coast Warriors, Skegness and the UK.
00:55Now, we all think of cheerleading with American football teams.
01:02It's quite unusual, I would have thought, for a British team to do so well.
01:08Cheerleading has grown so much in England now.
01:12We're very much up there with the Americans.
01:14It's not what you expect as a traditional cheerleader now.
01:19It's very athletic. It includes gymnastics, jumps, dance and acrobatic stunts.
01:24Where the athletes throw and catch each other in the air.
01:28So, the UK is catching up.
01:32North, it's slower to catch on than it is down in the South.
01:37But we're really excited in the fact that us and another team in Lincolnshire
01:41for the first time are going to America to represent the UK.
01:45So how long has East Coast Warriors been in Skegness?
01:49We started in Waynefleet in 2015 and we moved to Skegness five years later.
01:55And that was because we were able to get our own premises.
01:59This is our ninth season and we're about to start our tenth season,
02:03which is the year we're going to make the trip to America.
02:07So, how old are you cheerleaders?
02:10We've got some as young as four and we've got all the way up to 22.
02:15And how many members have you got?
02:17We've got approximately 75 members at the moment.
02:20And it's not just girls, is it?
02:22No, we've got some really strong boys this year.
02:25We did have a boy that was selected for Team England as well.
02:28Very, very exciting. Now, obviously going to America is going to cost you some money.
02:33Have you launched an appeal to raise the money to get you all there?
02:36We have. We've got a GoFundMe page and we've got a fantastic team of parents
02:40that are out there doing car boots, tombolas.
02:43We're holding quiz nights.
02:45And all sorts of things are in the pipeline to try and help these girls.
02:49And the summer holidays have just started.
02:51Are you making appearances at various events around the area?
02:54We are. Wayne Fleet Weekend just gone.
02:57We're due to perform at the Suncastle tomorrow
02:59and we've got a few other dates that we're looking to attend.

03:24Breathe, and out.
03:29That was an amazing display. Thank you very much.
03:32You must be very excited about going to America.
03:36I think we're all as excited as each other.
03:40It's going to be a great experience, we think.
03:44A big map where all the big teams are competing.
03:48We think we're all really excited.
