00:00When the Philippine Olympic Committee messaged me about designing something for the Paris
00:18Olympics, I was really excited about it.
00:21If you see the barong, it's just like an off-white polo shirt from afar, but they said that they
00:26want something that's vibrant, something that represents the Philippines.
00:32So I proposed, and while I was conceptualizing, I said, why not use our colors of the flag?
00:38So I made use of the vibrant blue and the vibrant red also, and in the middle of it
00:45is our sun.
00:46But it's not the Philippine sun, it's just a sun that represents our flag.
00:52So the colors of our flag and the sun rays, together with the pintados pattern, the sun
00:58pattern, which represents bravery, colors of the flag.
01:03It's like an armor for our athletes.
01:06The concept behind it is I want them closer to their hearts, that's why it's based on
01:11that side, and then that armor is like a badge of honor for them while they're wearing it.
01:16I want them to feel proud, it's like they're going on a fight, and it's like their protection
01:22when they're fighting.
01:23Of course I feel very proud.
01:27It's not really me as a designer, it doesn't represent me, I'm representing our country
01:33when I was doing this one, I was thinking for the Philippines.
