00:00The 2024 Summer Olympics kicked off in Paris with a bang, with the star-studded opening
00:07ceremony featuring glitter, musical performances and rain. Many on the streets of the French
00:13capital are ready to watch 19 days of competition and say not even the weather will dampen their
00:19spirits.
00:20Event organisers say millions of fans have flocked to the city to watch.
00:39It's kind of a dream, you know, a bucket list for me and my daughter. We've been watching
00:43the Tour de France since she was a little girl and so finally we got here. We actually
00:48had this trip planned for the Tour de France in 2020 during COVID and then COVID kind of
00:53cancelled it. So this is our redo and we added the Olympics to it, so an extra bonus.
00:58Roughly 10,500 athletes will compete in almost 330 Olympic events, including new categories
01:06such as breakdancing and surfing.
