John Mousinho speaks after Pompey's 4-0 friendly defeat to Wycombe
Transcript
00:00So Jon, obviously a behind closed doors friendly against Wickham today, what do you make of that?
00:06I think it was a good exercise from the fitness standpoint. We've obviously got 4 sets of 30 minutes out of it from the physical side and the players have got some decent minutes in their legs.
00:19I think apart from that there aren't too many positives to take other than it's a fantastic time to lose a game like that.
00:24I think with a couple of weeks to go to the start of the season. I think it's away from the result, I think the performance is the big thing for us so we really went at it today.
00:36I think it's one of those things that's a nice little wake up call for us going into the season.
00:40Obviously you used two different teams there as well, did one team do better than the other did you feel?
00:44No.
00:45Simple as that?
00:46Yeah, I thought we were both really poor.
00:48Is there anything you can take about it other than fitness?
00:51It's amazing, honestly it's a brilliant result for us at this stage of the season because I think we performed so well up until this point in training and in pre-season games.
01:00I think when the level stepped up, I thought physically, mentally, the way that the boys handled the ball, the way that we pressed, everything wasn't up to scratch.
01:09I think it's a really good time for that to happen rather than us maybe get our way through the next week and then think that everything's rosy going into the Leeds game.
01:18That's for everyone, that's for the players, obviously for the staff as well, there's lots for us to think about.
01:23We all talk about pre-season friendlies and how it doesn't mean anything, they don't mean anything in terms of the results but performances definitely do.
01:29You can't just turn it on and off, you can't think you're going to bumble through pre-season and perform like that and then go to Wellingford Road and get anything from it.
01:35From that point of view it's a massive positive.
01:38It's basically just get it out of the system then?
01:40Yes, get it out of the system and also there's a lot of learning points.
01:43We can look at it and we can dissect that from a staff point of view and go here are the reasons why we didn't get what we needed to get out of today in terms of the performance.
01:52Again, forget the result, that's one thing that if we'd have lost 4-0 and we'd have performed well, then I wouldn't have cared.
01:59Because in these games sometimes we're not organised from set players, we've got a trial list here and there, so you might think we're not quite as cohesive as we need to be.
02:07None of those things were excuses I think for the way we played over 120 minutes.
02:11You used 22 players, does anyone come out with any credit at all from that?
02:14I thought that Zach Swanson was outstanding in the second 60 minutes to be honest.
02:18There were some decent performances in the first 30 minutes when we did dominate the game largely.
02:23But we came out after that first 30 minutes and we played some ridiculously poor football I thought,
02:29considering how good some of these players are and also considering the level.
02:35It's one of those things where we look at it and think, we can be right at it today and I think they've set themselves up really well for the season.
02:44But this was a side that three months ago or four months ago, we obviously went away to Baden's Park and came away with a decent victory with largely the same set of players.
02:53I think we've got to make sure that we learn from that and we respond this week.
02:58But again, a brilliant time for us to be able to have that lesson and learn that lesson and go into the game on Tuesday, the game on Saturday and make sure that we don't do that again.
