00:00We should be able to have discussions without washing our hands and screaming and walking off stage.
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most memorable times
00:11a host on The View got into a verbal fight with a guest.
00:14We won't be counting times when hosts went after each other.
00:17You sit down here and you've got five women going,
00:19whatever, whatever, whatever.
00:21Yes.
00:21Whatever it is, thank you for coming on.
00:25Number 20, Meghan McCain on Cory Booker.
00:27Gun violence is one of the most contentious issues in modern America.
00:31With Senator Cory Booker on The View,
00:33Meghan McCain kept the debate going with questions about the guest's viewpoints.
00:37The host opposes the politician's support of gun control measures
00:40and the talking points of fellow Democrats like Beto O'Rourke.
00:43In defense of O'Rourke, Booker pushes back on McCain's divisive words.
00:47We should watch the way we talk about each other.
00:49Seriously, we can't tear the character of people down.
00:51We have different beliefs.
00:52He has no problem doing it to me.
00:54I mean, he was very nasty to me about this.
00:56This doesn't sit well with the presenter in the slightest.
00:59The senator seems to take the high road here,
01:01trying to focus on the principles that unite the country
01:04rather than those that divide it.
01:05I'm not letting ourselves be divided by false arguments.
01:08McCain tries to clarify with her final words
01:11as she seems unsatisfied by the political leader's response.
01:14Needless to say, the argument does not get settled here.
01:17I respect what you're saying.
01:19I respect it.
01:20And it's very unpopular in this room,
01:22but there's a big difference between saying
01:24you're for background checks and you're for mandatory gun buybacks.
01:27Number 19.
01:28Hosts on Matt Gaetz.
01:30Conservative leaders don't always have the easiest time on The View.
01:33In this interview,
01:34Representative Matt Gaetz seems to come on the show
01:36with the express purpose of fighting back.
01:39He opens with several disses about the Democratic Party
01:41and Joe Biden's performance as a presidential candidate.
01:44This prompts plenty of hard questions from Joy Behar
01:47and Sonny Hostin about Donald Trump's choices.
01:49So let's talk about your boss for a second,
01:51because yesterday...
01:52Well, I don't...
01:52My boss are the people of Northwest Florida.
01:54Okay.
01:54So yesterday, Trump...
01:55Well, don't dismiss him.
01:56It's the highest concentration of active duty military in the country.
01:59That's true.
02:00Gaetz stands his ground on his viewpoints,
02:02upsetting even conservative host Meghan McCain
02:05with his take on pardoning political consultant Roger Stone.
02:08McCain pushes further on Trump's character,
02:10which starts even more crosstalk between the panel.
02:12What would you say to women like me who still hold back on the
02:15grab them in the blank,
02:16attacking war heroes,
02:17attacking the gold star families,
02:19things like that that just hold us back.
02:21The controversial politician definitely ends this appearance
02:24without making any friends.
02:27Hosts on Rand Paul
02:29In another case of contentious political discourse,
02:31Senator Rand Paul enters the view arena
02:34to verbally spar with the panel.
02:36He talks about his book,
02:37his views on Donald Trump,
02:38and his ideas about U.S. foreign policy.
02:41Left and right have agreed in the past
02:42that regime change doesn't work.
02:44When we got rid of Hussein,
02:45we got chaos and more terrorism.
02:47When we got rid of Gaddafi,
02:48chaos and more terrorism.
02:49But Senator, we're here now.
02:51The presenters do not agree with the politician's ideas
02:53about pulling American troops out of Syria.
02:56Paul takes a more anti-interventionist stance,
02:58while the co-hosts are more in favor of providing aid to allies.
03:02The politician's answer creates a larger discussion
03:04about whether or not American troops backing out would be ideal.
03:08I let you talk, you let me talk.
03:09These are the same people,
03:11these are the same people that would still have us in Vietnam.
03:14These are the same people who always say,
03:16stay at war, stay at war, stay at war.
03:18Neither side seems to reach a compromise,
03:20as the discussion is cut off.
03:22We may end up being in a bigger war.
03:23Let me finish, let me finish.
03:24Don't interrupt.
03:25So Iran gets up against the border.
03:26Hold on, I'm sorry Senator, I am about to cut to it.
03:28Iran comes up against the border,
03:30and Israel pushes it back.
03:31Number 17.
03:32Meghan McCain on Pamela Anderson.
03:34The name Julian Assange draws strong reactions
03:37from both sides of the political aisle.
03:39By defending the man,
03:40Pamela Anderson becomes the target of Meghan McCain.
03:43The latter questions Anderson's defense of Assange
03:46in light of the figure's controversial actions.
03:48While the Baywatch star gives her version of the story,
03:50McCain keeps digging into the guest's answers.
03:53I think that people like Edward Snowden,
03:55Chelsea Manning are heroes,
03:56and Julian Assange is a publisher.
03:59Putin also thinks that.
04:00It's immediately clear that neither woman
04:02wants to compromise on this issue.
04:04They both double down on their positions,
04:06with the pair fighting over the WikiLeaks founder's
04:08political motivations,
04:10and the host lets it be known
04:11that she does not approve in her final words.
04:14He's a cyber terrorist.
04:16I'll say it.
04:17The Republican Party won.
04:19Number 16.
04:20Joy Behar on Tulsi Gabbard.
04:22The conversation between representative Tulsi Gabbard
04:24and host Joy Behar
04:26quickly takes a turn for the worse in this clip.
04:28The leader begins by trying to set the record straight
04:31on who she is and her character.
04:33Unfortunately, you double down
04:34on the baseless accusations that she made
04:37that strikes at the core of who I am.
04:40I'm a soldier.
04:41Gabbard also defends herself
04:42from accusations of being a Russian asset.
04:45Reprimands Hillary Clinton,
04:46and calls to memory her experience as a U.S. soldier,
04:49complicating the segment even more.
04:51Really?
04:52I mean, this is outrageous.
04:53This is outrageous and offensive on so many levels.
04:57Behar is quick to interject with arguments and opinions,
05:01not to mention some other uncalled for comments,
05:03which threatens to snowball the dialogue
05:05into unproductive places.
05:07I served in the war in Iraq that she championed.
05:11She championed a regime change war in Libya.
05:13Did you not believe in that war?
05:14I believe the lies that were told to us.
05:18Well, so did she.
05:19Number 15, Elizabeth Hasselbeck on Michael Moore.
05:22If you know either of these people,
05:25you know they exist
05:26on completely different political planes.
05:28This is especially true during a discussion
05:30of U.S. foreign policy and Osama bin Laden.
05:33Michael Moore mentions that the Al-Qaeda leader
05:35should have been tried in a court,
05:36but Elizabeth Hasselbeck takes issue with that position.
05:39What are we afraid of?
05:41We're Americans, man.
05:42No, no, the point is-
05:44The rights are not afforded to him
05:45as they are our citizens who obey the laws of this country.
05:48The host doesn't believe that bin Laden deserved a normal trial.
05:52Both people stick to their positions,
05:53not budging on beliefs about the American justice system.
05:56We will hunt you down,
05:58and we will take you into court,
06:00and we will put you on trial,
06:01and if need be, you will receive the maximum punishment.
06:04Moore makes a firm case,
06:06even though Hasselbeck loudly disagrees with him.
06:08The entire conversation plays like a tense back and forth,
06:12with the two panelists arguing right from the jump.
06:14Even those citizens here who do not abide by law
06:17are granted those rights.
06:18Osama bin Laden never deserved those rights,
06:20never did, ever.
06:22Number 14.
06:23Ana Navarro on Ted Cruz
06:25Even after everything Donald Trump said about his family,
06:28Senator Ted Cruz still sides with him.
06:30This is exactly what angers The View host Ana Navarro.
06:33She brings up the disparaging comments Trump made about Cruz's wife,
06:37unable to believe that the politician would easily move on
06:40from such personal attacks
06:41and remain in support of the 45th president.
06:43I don't know how you get over those kind of calumnies
06:46against your father,
06:47but you obviously have gotten over it.
06:48Today, you sing a very different tune.
06:50So tell us, were you lying then or are you lying now?
06:53The panelist jumps back in as people start raising their voices.
06:56No answer satisfies the co-host
06:58as she and the Texas political leader reach a stalemate.
07:01Navarro's glare throughout this segment says it all.
07:04Joe Biden claims George W. Bush is illegitimate.
07:05You just said we don't scream at each other, right?
07:07Or is it just you that gets to scream?
07:09Okay, no, no, I agree.
07:10Okay, then lower your voice because we are very close to each other.
07:13Number 13, Elizabeth Hasselbeck on Melissa Etheridge.
07:16As an outspoken artist and activist,
07:18Melissa Etheridge isn't afraid of speaking her mind.
07:21This segment covers her thoughts on measures like Proposition 8
07:24that rolled back rights for marriage equality in California.
07:27She also calls out Elizabeth Hasselbeck for her views on the subject.
07:30I was saddened with your conversation
07:33only because I felt you misleaded people.
07:37The host tries to articulate an answer
07:40while also defending herself as merely presenting another perspective.
07:43Etheridge outright asks whether or not Hasselbeck is in favor of gay marriage,
07:47leading to the latter's complicated feelings about the topic.
07:50For me, it's not a personal issue.
07:52For me, it's just a legal issue.
07:53I think that it should come from the people.
07:54I don't think activist judges should be deciding
07:56what's right for the rest of the country.
07:58It's pretty surreal to watch this argument all these years later
08:01given the progress that's happened since.
08:03Number 12, Alyssa Farrah Griffin on Kellyanne Conway.
08:07In this segment, two ex-members of Donald Trump's camp square off.
08:11Alyssa Farrah Griffin asks Kellyanne Conway
08:13if she can still defend the former president
08:15despite the events of January 6th.
08:17Conway chooses instead to go after the host's own record and political past.
08:21I haven't seen you since you've changed, but I want to say this to you.
08:24I didn't change.
08:25Just to be clear, I didn't change.
08:26I swore an oath to the Constitution.
08:27You get to talk here every day.
08:29I swore an oath to the Constitution, not to Donald Trump.
08:31Enduring the personal attacks,
08:33Griffin stays determined to get an answer to her question.
08:36The former campaign manager to Trump dances around her responses
08:39even as other panelists try to grill her.
08:41You're not answering the question.
08:44How is a man qualified to be president if he incited...
08:46He's not the president, Joe Biden is.
08:48I know, but you're talking about maybe a second term.
08:50You've never denounced Donald Trump.
08:52By the end of the interview, it's uncertain if anything is really gained.
08:56The entertainment mostly comes from seeing these two turn into full-blown rivals.
09:01Number 11, Meghan McCain and hosts on Donald Trump Jr.
09:05Anybody that knows this show or these competitors well knows what'll happen here.
09:09Meghan McCain takes aim at Donald Trump and his family,
09:12reading a list of accusations off as the president's son listens.
09:15And I understand what you're saying about policy,
09:17but when you're talking about attacking gold star families
09:20who have given the ultimate sacrifice,
09:22more than any of in this room have given, and you put them through pain.
09:25It's the beginning of a feeding frenzy that includes
09:28plenty of justified grievances against the son and his family's name.
09:31Trump Jr. does utter the word sorry at one point,
09:34but then tries to deflect as much as possible.
09:36And I'm sorry about that, and they did have differences, I agree with that.
09:39But I think just-
09:40And again, I'm sorry for the loss.
09:42I think you lost your aunt last night, so I do apologize for that as well.
09:46It's definitely evident in this clip that you can't
09:48change some people's minds about anything.
09:50The guest even tries to go after Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg
09:54to direct the heat elsewhere.
09:56We don't think it worked.
09:57Now that you've broken this piece of ice,
10:00because I guess this is the fight you wanted.
10:02It's not the fight I wanted.
10:03But if we're talking about the character,
10:04if we're talking about these things-
10:05Are you questioning my character?
10:07I'm not-
10:07Number 10.
10:08Everyone on NeNe Leakes.
10:10The drama may not be as apparent during the interview itself,
10:13but there's no denying there was definitely some shade being thrown around.
10:17Why can't we see your furniture?
10:18She got it.
10:19Because, honey, we have to have security measures.
10:21Oh, but you're showing the house.
10:23The TV personality and actress was hoping to talk about her Broadway role on the talk show,
10:28but instead, comments were made about the real housewives of Atlanta cast members' marriage.
10:32I love being married.
10:34But why did you get divorced in the first place?
10:36Well, honey, I had to teach him a lesson.
10:38The conversation also turned to her friendship with Donald Trump.
10:41After her appearance,
10:43NeNe took to the Twitterverse and called the hosts a bunch of judgmental, quote,
10:46mean girls.
10:47Whoopi Goldberg was surprised to hear that Leakes was so unhappy with the interview,
10:51and while speaking with Andy Cohen on his late show,
10:54suggested she come back so they could try again.
10:56Something tells us that won't be happening anytime soon.
10:59But did you know when she left that day that she was feeling sad?
11:03You know what?
11:04I didn't.
11:04You know what?
11:05Come on.
11:05Really, NeNe?
11:06Number 9.
11:07Everyone on Donald Trump.
11:09I really believe there's a birth certificate.
11:11Why?
11:12Look, she's smiling.
11:13Why doesn't he show his birth certificate?
11:16And you know what?
11:17I wish he would.
11:18Before he became the President of the United States,
11:20Donald Trump was a huge critic of Barack Obama.
11:23His most infamous gripe with the former POTUS was on the question of his citizenship,
11:27and Trump constantly demanded to see his birth certificate.
11:30He brought this up to the ladies of The View,
11:32and things got a little heated.
11:34I want him to show his birth certificate.
11:37There's something on that birth certificate that he doesn't like.
11:39Oh, my God.
11:40Oh, that's a terrible suggestion.
11:41Whoopi, I'm telling you.
11:42He was three pounds a day.
11:43Donald, I love you.
11:44I'm telling you.
11:45At one point, everyone was talking at once,
11:47but Whoopi ended the chaos by calling it, quote,
11:50the biggest pile of dog mess she'd heard in ages.
11:53Surprisingly, the interview finished on a pretty positive note,
11:56with Trump and Barbara Walters hugging it out.
11:59You're a great character.
12:00You're a great friend of ours.
12:02We don't know whether you should be president,
12:03but we do know that you will enjoy watching.
12:05But you do admit I'd be a great president.
12:07Number 8.
12:08Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg on Glenn Beck.
12:11In this case, we don't just get one segment, but two.
12:14However, it might be more appropriate to call them rounds,
12:17because Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters took Glenn Beck to the ring.
12:21Right off the bat,
12:22the then Fox News political commentator said he was nervous about being on the show.
12:26And he had good reason.
12:27Have you looked the way Whoopi is looking at me?
12:30For two segments, he was grilled on his politics,
12:34his habit of crying on the air,
12:35and his lack of journalistic integrity.
12:37Do you ever check your facts?
12:39But this, but you were wrong here.
12:42And here's why it pissed me off.
12:43Here's why it pissed me off.
12:44As usual, the ladies were not subtle about the issues,
12:47with Walters criticizing him for not fact-checking,
12:50and Goldberg allegedly calling him, quote,
12:52a lying sack of dog mess.
12:54We're gonna give you a chance to breathe.
12:58I'm sure that you meant well.
13:00We're giving you another segment.
13:01We'll give you another segment.
13:02Number seven, Elizabeth Hasselbeck on Kathy Griffin.
13:06Kathy Griffin is a comedian who doesn't hold anything back.
13:09She's edgy, and her humor has the tendency to offend.
13:12Elizabeth Hasselbeck doesn't appear to be a fan,
13:15and decided to let Griffin know when she came on the show.
13:17You said things about people here that are A, untrue, and B, not so funny.
13:21So, do you ever feel weird, like, them coming here, say, and sitting here?
13:25Apparently, the comedian had made a joke or two at Hasselbeck's expense,
13:28and the View host was not happy about it.
13:31So she called Griffin out on the jokes,
13:33which ended up being to the comedian's delight,
13:35even after she was told her jokes weren't funny.
13:38I'm cool if you're cool.
13:39I think it's all for a joke.
13:41So cool.
13:41It's all cool.
13:43As the comedian lives for uncomfortable moments,
13:45she tried to make Hasselbeck get really angry at her,
13:48but the host eventually backed down.
13:50Anything else you'd like to say, Elizabeth?
13:51Because this is just getting good.
13:53Number 6.
13:54Whoopi Goldberg on Kate Gosselin
13:56When Kate Gosselin of John and Kate Plus 8 stardom guest co-hosted The View,
14:00she talked about her custody battle with John, and things got ugly.
14:04That's the law.
14:05I know that's what the law says, but you could have gone to jail.
14:09Kate didn't like the babysitter John picked for the kids,
14:12so she went to his house and called the police when he didn't let her in.
14:15Sherri Shepherd was understanding,
14:16but Whoopi Goldberg did not like what she was hearing.
14:19You cannot do that.
14:20You cannot do that.
14:22And I'm saying I agree with you, Whoopi.
14:23Because when they do it to you...
14:25She laid into Kate,
14:26saying she was lucky she didn't go to jail for breaking the custody agreement.
14:30Well, you can always count on Goldberg to put things bluntly.
14:33I can't even deal with the rest of this.
14:34We're gonna go and come right back with more hot topics.
14:37Number 5.
14:38Joy Behar on Sarah Huckabee Sanders
14:40Fake news has been a hotly debated topic
14:43since before Donald Trump was elected president in 2016,
14:46so The View decided to tackle it with Sarah Huckabee Sanders
14:49since she was the then White House press secretary.
14:51This has been a consistent talking point of his and the administration's.
14:56It's dangerous because the media is here for a purpose.
14:58It has a very important historical role.
15:01The conversation started pretty civilly,
15:02with each side talking about accountability
15:05and responsibility of the media and of the administration.
15:08That is, until Joy said that it's the media's job
15:11to point out all of Trump's lies.
15:13The media is supposed to not report on the fact
15:15that 95% of what he says is a lie.
15:18This puts Sanders on the defensive,
15:20which is always an uncomfortable position for a guest,
15:22especially when Goldberg pointed out
15:24some questionable statements by the president.
15:26Where was President Obama born and is he an American citizen?
15:30I think this has been pretty well addressed.
15:32Number 4.
15:33Whoopi Goldberg on Jeanine Pirro
15:35I'm not here to talk about what Donald Trump is and isn't.
15:38I know what you're talking about.
15:40No, you gotta answer the question.
15:41Tempers had begun flying in this interview early on
15:44with Judge Jeanine Pirro.
15:45A Trump supporter and Fox News reporter.
15:47But things took a turn for the worse
15:49when she diagnosed Goldberg with quote,
15:51Trump derangement syndrome.
15:53Listen, I don't have Trump derangement.
15:55Let me tell you what I have.
15:56Okay.
15:56I have a lot of, I'm tired.
15:59Goldberg fired back that what she actually is is tired
16:02and laid out all the things she didn't agree with Trump about.
16:05Pirro then tried to debate the subject,
16:07which turned into a yelling match
16:09and ended with Goldberg saying she was done
16:11while ripping up her cards.
16:13After the interview,
16:14Goldberg explained that she doesn't like to lose her cool,
16:16but she hates being called hysterical even more.
16:25Number three.
16:26Whoopi Goldberg on Ann Coulter.
16:28Ann Coulter and controversy.
16:30Somehow, these two things just seem to go hand in hand.
16:33Coulter has always been very vocal with her opinions,
16:36so it's not surprising that she also took them with her
16:38to the view.
16:39This time, she claimed that white guilt
16:41got African-Americans lighter prison sentences
16:44or even none at all,
16:45and that this really started with OJ Simpson being acquitted.
16:57Well, Whoopi Goldberg did not like this at all
17:00and told Ms. Coulter that not only didn't she know
17:03what she was talking about,
17:04but also that she didn't know what it was like to be black.
17:06If you're gonna talk about race,
17:09at least, at least know what you're talking about.
17:13What followed was Coulter trying to defend her argument
17:16while being shut down repeatedly by Goldberg.
17:22Number two.
17:23Joy Behar on Omarosa Manigault Newman.
17:25Joy Behar hasn't made her opposition to Donald Trump a secret,
17:29so when Omarosa Manigault Newman,
17:30a Trump supporter who worked in the White House,
17:32came on the show in 2017,
17:34people got the popcorn ready.
17:36Things got a little heated when Omarosa rubbed the fact
17:38that Trump is president in Joy's face.
17:55Joy reiterated that she was waiting for Trump
17:57to apologize to the people he insulted,
17:58like veterans and the disabled,
18:00to the delight of the audience.
18:06Omarosa went back on The View in 2018

18:45Number one.
18:46Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg on Bill O'Reilly.
18:49Politics and religion are topics
18:50that can always create a heated conversation,
18:52and this one definitely brought the fire.
18:55Political commentator Bill O'Reilly
18:57has always held strong opinions
18:58that not everyone agrees with.
19:00In this case,
19:01O'Reilly felt that it was inappropriate
19:03that a Muslim mosque was being built
19:05so close to what was formerly
19:06the site of the World Trade Center.
19:08The mosque down here on 9-11,
19:09that's inappropriate.
19:10It's, it's, sure,
19:12they have a right to do it,
19:13and, and, and in the Constitution,
19:15but it's inappropriate
19:16because a lot of the 9-11 families,
19:18who I know,
19:19say, look, we don't want that.
19:20He continued on with even more problematic statements,
19:23which is when Goldberg and Behar
19:24got really upset and even walked off the stage.
19:27I don't want to sit here.
19:28Bill, I don't want to sit here.
19:30Go.
19:30I don't.
19:31Go.
19:31I'm out, I'm out, I'm out, I'm out.
19:34Walters immediately criticized the walkout
19:36before continuing the argument.
19:38However, she still gave Goldberg and Behar
19:40time to regain composure and return,
19:42during which time O'Reilly even apologized.
19:45We're back because now you apologized.
19:47You apologized.
19:48All right, look.
19:48But that's not the issue.
