00:15This Sunday Venezuelans go to the polls to elect the next president in July's 28th presidential
00:26election.
00:27We are joined live with our special envoy, Brian Meir, for more details of what has happened
00:31so far in this election day.
00:34Hello Brian, welcome back to From the South, what is the latest information?
00:42Well I'm standing here in Andre Bello polling station, named after Andre Bello's school.
00:48It's a big school in the center of Caracas and one of the largest polling stations in
00:53the city, with 13 different rooms with electronic voting machines in them.
00:59We were here at 6 in the morning when voting started and there was a huge crowd outside
01:04and in other polling stations we visited around the city all morning long, there were lines
01:08that stretched outside onto the street, in some places quite large, but it seems like
01:14there's, things have faded away in the last couple hours, maybe after lunch, and although
01:20there's still lots of people trickling in here to vote, it's a big place, it's not the
01:27huge crowd that we saw early this morning.
01:31So I was triangulating my information with a couple different journalists I know, like
01:37Lucas Kohner from Venezuela Analysis, and during the morning people were beginning to
01:42say there's going to be really, really high turnouts, but it looks like it's trickling
01:47off a little bit.
01:48So I personally, if I were to vote in the Venezuelan elections, I would choose to come
01:54after lunch, it's really nice in here right now, there's plenty of space, people are talking
01:58in the hallways, and other than that, you know, the Vice President of the National Election
02:05Council, Carlos Quintero, gave a speech to the press earlier today, he said by noon they
02:12had already conducted 12 internal audits of the electronic voting system, all machines
02:17were up and running, so we've only got a few hours left now, it's about three and a
02:21half hours until the end of voting in the city of Caracas, and then we'll have to wait
02:27a couple hours, five, six, seven, maybe eight hours, until we find out who the next president
02:32of Venezuela is going to be.
