During a press conference on Wednesday, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) spoke about Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu’s address before Congress and Hamas' attack on Israel.

00:01And I thank Benjamin Netanyahu for coming here to the United States.
00:07It's important for us to hear firsthand from the person who leads the nation that is on
00:11the line.
00:12I had the privilege, the responsibility, of going to Israel in the first congressional
00:18delegation after the attack.
00:21And the nation, which is kind of used to terrorism, was shocked by this.
00:26To put it in perspective, if you scaled up, our population is so much bigger than Israel's.
00:32They lost 1,300 people.
00:33That would have been the equivalent of 40,000 Americans dead in one attack, unprovoked,
00:42by someone who had been, if you will, making motions that they would be at peace.
00:46They had the same shock as we had after 9-11.
00:50And our message to Prime Minister Netanyahu is that you stood with us after 9-11, and
00:55we will stand with you after October the 7th.
00:59Now, Hamas targets civilians, children, infants.
01:02They are the ones who are the killers.
01:04In contrast, Israel wants to protect their people, and that's the difference.
01:08I cannot stress enough, there is no moral equivalency between Israel and Hamas.
01:15Hamas is the aggressor.
01:17They are the terrorists.
01:18They are those who even now embed their leadership within a civilian population, knowing that
01:23Israel, if they wish to take out that Hamas leadership, will be forced to have, that there
01:29might indeed be civilian deaths.
01:32But that is Hamas bringing upon those civilians.
01:35Now, that's not the only thing we're battling.
01:39There's anti-Semitism here in the United States, and we've seen this rampant anti-Semitism
01:44at colleges nationwide.
01:46No student should fear, as she or he walks around the campus, that they are endangered
01:52just because they're going to class.
01:53Now, these anti-Israel protesters are not singing Kumbaya.
02:00They are chanting slogans known to mean the obliteration of the nation of Israel.
02:06That's why we have introduced the Restoring Civility on Campus Act, ensuring that universities
02:11and the Biden-Harris administration immediately addresses civil rights complaints if a student
02:17experiences violence or harassment on a campus because of their heritage.
02:21I thank Senator Ernst for co-leading this bill, and I thank her as well for co-hosting
02:26this.
