Shropshire Girl Guides Country Camp held at Chetwynd Deer Park in Newport, Shropshire - Shropshire Girl Guides Returns To Newport After 5 Years
Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Bryony. We're here with Shropshire Girl Guiding at Chetwynd Deer Park and we are on our county camp.
00:07We have over 550 girls and leaders here for five days of camp with loads of activities including rock climbing,
00:15canoeing,
00:16traditions, trefoil and
00:19crafts.
00:21We had over 700 on site yesterday because they came for the day with our rainbows and brownies joining us
00:28and we're having an amazing time and we've looked out on this weather.
00:32They're getting to try new activities that they've never done before a lot of them and a lot of them have never been away from
00:39home in this kind of environment.
00:41We have quite a lot of girls who've never camped before and which is quite nice for them to get that experience.
00:47It's kind of like gentle camping because they've got all their food provided. They don't have to cook it to start with
00:54and we're not too far from home as well if they ever did need to pop home. These are our traditional guiding tents.
01:01So we have got our trefoil guild here, which is
01:04for the adults and they have come to teach the girls their traditions.
01:08So a lot of them are showing the skills that they learned as guides many years ago to our girls now.
01:15Yeah, so we haven't done a camp in quite a few years.
01:18We got delayed by Covid and then just trying to get one together and organized
01:22but hopefully we'll be able to do these again in a couple of years time.
01:25But if people want to join their local guiding group,
01:28there are lots of opportunities either to volunteer as an adult or there's lots of spaces for young members to join as well.
