Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday condoled the loss of lives in the landslides in Kerala's Wayanad, and urged UDF workers to provide all help to those affected. Rahul Gandhi said he has spoken to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Wayanad district collector, who have assured him that rescue operations are underway.

00:37I have spoken to the Honourable Defence Minister and the Chief Minister of Kerala. I request

00:42the Union Government to extend all possible support for rescue and medical care. Immediate

00:48release of the compensation to deceased people, if that compensation can be increased as well.

00:54Restore vital transport and communication lines. Set up relief at the earliest and prepare

01:00a road map for the rehabilitation of the affected families.

01:05Even as I speak, the threat of landslides looms over many areas in Wayanad and the Western

01:11Ghats. Our country has witnessed an alarming rise in the landslides in the last few years.

01:18There is an urgent need for mapping of landslide-prone areas and to take up mitigation measures and

01:24an action plan to address the growing frequency of natural calamities in the ecologically
