A man, who was just sentenced to a six-month jail term for a drug offence, jumped off the second floor of the Keningau Magistrate's Court building on Monday (July 29) in a bid to escape imprisonment.

00:13District Police Chief Superintendent Yam Pilgarai said the incident occurred at around 2.30

00:21He explained that the convict was not handcuffed at the time as it was taken off for the sentencing

00:28Fortunately, the convict, Muhammad Safwan Shaheer Jassuf Abdullah, was caught seven
00:32hours later by a police team from the Crime Investigation Department and Special Branch.
00:38He was found hiding in a chicken coop at a government quarters near the old Keningau
00:42Hospital.
00:43On top of his six-month prison sentence, Muhammad Safwan now faces up to two years' imprisonment
00:49upon conviction for escaping custody under Sections 223 and 224 of the Penal Code.
