Woman thinking about putting trackers on flowers - after hanging basket 'nicked'

A woman says she is considering putting tracking devices on her flowers after a prized hanging basket was 'nicked' from her doorstep.

Becca Fulcher, 50, has been left gutted by the alleged theft of the £40 display in Milton Keynes, Bucks., and is now thinking about resorting to drastic measures.

The HR officer says she will attach a chain and padlock to next year's flowers - and might even use an Apple AirTag for tracking.

Footage captured on Becca's Ring doorbell shows a man appearing to walk off with a hanging basket at around 1:10am last Wednesday (July 24).

She has not reported the matter to police but is scouring Facebook to check her basket has not been listed for sale.

Becca said "It is crazy that you would think to take a hanging basket from somebody's doorstep.

"I always grow mine from scratch and I take a lot of pride in how they develop over the summer months.

"We have one out the front of our house and two out the back - I woke up in the morning and said to my husband 'what's gone missing from the front garden?'

"It was the hanging basket. It's the principle behind it - you work hard for everything to be nice for your home and then someone brazen decides they fancy it."

Becca's hanging basket was made up of petunias and fuchsias and she said it cost around £40 to put together.

She continued: "The same thing happened to us four years ago so since then I've put a cable tie on them.

"Next year there will be a chain and a padlock, and I'm contemplating an AirTag to put on it as well.

"We had our notifications turned off for our Ring doorbell at night otherwise it goes off all the time from the road traffic. We've put them back on now.

"We live in one of the nicest estates in Milton Keynes where everyone takes pride in their houses and front gardens.

"It's about your home being your home. You have to wonder whether it was a reason to come up and nose through the windows.

"It makes you feel a bit unsettled."

Becca added she had taken matters into her own hands and was on the lookout for the basket on social media and around where she lives.

She added: "I had a drive round last night as I wanted to find it or see if it was hanging up somewhere.

"I've even looked on Facebook Marketplace to see if it ended up there.

"The only thing I can think of is that someone might have been looking for a quick bit of money.

"It's bad that it makes me laugh a little bit - just from how crazy it is. Ultimately, we shouldn't have to be looking over our shoulders to protect our own things."
