00:00Leeds households will be able to recycle glass bottles and jars in green bins for the first
00:06time from the 1st of August. This includes all colours of glass, so everything from wine
00:11and beer bottles to jam jars and pasta sauce jars can be recycled in Leeds green bins.
00:17Councillor Mohamed Rafiq has more details.
00:20Over 50% of bottles and jars actually end up in the general waste bin, which is in the
00:27black bin. Now we're saying that all that could go into the green bin, which amounts
00:35to 11,600 tonnes a year. We do have a big network of bottle banks, one of the biggest
00:43in the country, 300 sites, 700 bottle banks where people could actually take their bottles
00:50and jars for recycling. But this actually is about bringing recycling closer to home.
