00:00Hey, this is Rob Lowe, and this is my son, John Owen Lowe.
00:03Hi.
00:04And we're going to walk you through what we love about LA.
00:06We're going to talk about some food, some places to go.
00:09And some local slang.
00:23So when you're in LA, there are some foods that you absolutely have to try.
00:28Pink's Hot Dogs, smack.
00:30Smack.
00:31They're also, this is not a trade secret.
00:33Tourists might not know it.
00:34Yeah.
00:35I love things that stand the test of time.
00:37And Pink's is one of them.
00:39They just have it down to a science.
00:41It doesn't need improving.
00:42Yeah.
00:43Simple and good.
00:44Just works.
00:45When men were wearing hats, they were eating Pink's Hot Dog.
00:47People don't wear hats anymore?
00:48Not the way they should.
00:49For me, it's chili, onion, mustard.
00:52I'm a simple man.
00:53Ketchup, mustard.
00:54That's it.
00:55Can we start chowing on this now?
00:56Let's do that.
00:57Because this looks so flippin' good.
00:59I'm going to get messy.
01:00Look at this.
01:01Cheers, baby.
01:02Cheers.
01:03This is so good.
01:07I want to put it down.
01:08Too big a bite.
01:09Too big.
01:11They had a camera on me, so I went for it.
01:13So good.
01:17Are we supposed to talk?
01:18So you and I don't drink alcohol.
01:19Correct.
01:20So our drinks are limited.
01:23We found something that also stands the test of time.
01:26The Arnold Palmer.
01:28It hits every time.
01:29And for those of you who don't know, it's tea and lemonade.
01:33Iced tea.
01:34Iced tea and lemonade put together.
01:35Let's see how this mixture is.
01:36It's all about the mixture.
01:39Feels like it might have been sitting here a little too long.
01:41I think it's perhaps a bit light on the lemonade.
01:43Hang on.
01:44There's only one way to properly...
01:46Oh, oh.
01:47You've got to at least do this.
01:49Oh, by the handles.
01:50Yeah.
01:51I don't know about that.
01:52Probably the worst way to do it.
01:54Yeah.
01:55Big three.
01:56One night, you're rocking it.
01:57Arnold Palmer.
01:58Shirley Temple.
01:59Rob Roy.
02:00Roy Rogers.
02:01Roy Rogers.
02:02You should not complain.
02:03I think Rob Roy is an alcoholic drink.
02:04It's one of the gnarliest.
02:05Yeah.
02:06That is not what you're looking for.
02:07Big nut out if you hit all three of those drinks.
02:09Yes.
02:10Next, we are going for the chopped salad at La Scala.
02:13As I've gotten older, I realize the value in having a salad.
02:16Yeah.
02:17And if you're going to do a salad, there's only...
02:19There's the Gigi at the Palm.
02:21The Gigi at the Palm remains, I got to say.
02:24I love this salad.
02:25But I would say, if you're going to get this salad, you get extra dressing.
02:29I think this is the salami.
02:31And sometimes I do the tuna.
02:32The tuna is great.
02:33The tuna is great.
02:34Salami is great.
02:35And I put pepperoncinis in it.
02:36Oh, yeah.
02:37You need pepperoncinis.
02:38I love pepperoncinis.
02:39But it's good.
02:40It's the best.
02:41On to the next.
02:45If you live in L.A. or if you're visiting L.A.,
02:47there are absolutely some places you have to visit.
02:49If I can make it really long, then I can be like...
02:52You should reach across me.
02:54That's really funny.
02:55Is that stupid?
02:56No, it's really funny.
02:57Where do you like to go, my man?
02:58I'm going anywhere on the coast.
03:00The best thing about Los Angeles are the beaches and the proximity to the ocean.
03:04Point me out.
03:05Land me where you want to go.
03:06Okay, let's go further to Malibu.
03:07So we're going along the PCH.
03:08Pacific Coast Highway, one of my favorite drives in the world.
03:11Out to Malibu.
03:12Right there.
03:13Point Dume.
03:14Malibu.
03:15The beach at the end.
03:17Beautiful sunsets.
03:18Whale watching.
03:20Chumash Indian Village relics.
03:23And easy access to one of the great surf breaks.
03:26For me, I am a recently converted valley boy.
03:30So I now, I'm over here.
03:33No, keep moving towards Los Angeles.
03:35No, yeah, there's...
03:36Okay, now go to the left.
03:37Right there.
03:38There.
03:39That's the valley.
03:40Studio City, Sherman Oaks.
03:41That's right.
03:42That's my jam now.
03:43There's some of the best thrift shopping over there.
03:46Some really good food, surprisingly.
03:48Some of the best sushi in LA.
03:49Wait a minute.
03:50Is the 101 not even on?
03:51Hang on.
03:52Hang on.
03:54Sad.
03:55I mean, if you get the chance to go to the Hollywood Bowl...
03:57Point it out.
03:58It's going to be right Los Angeles.
04:02So Hollywood's here.
04:03It's right in here.
04:04Yeah.
04:05Hollywood Bowl, it's great.
04:06It's the place where Bugs Bunny famously held the note for so long that it made it collapse.
04:11Historical.
04:12For me, make it on over to the west side in Venice.
04:16There's great food, great white.
04:18And the people watching is off.
04:20Forget it.
04:21Off the charts.
04:22Forget it.
04:23And the boardwalk is, you know, a staple.
04:25Oh!
04:26And I think everybody should be required to visit my star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.
04:31I don't feel the same.
04:32I think they should.
04:33I don't feel the same.
04:34Just make sure it's, like, clean.
04:36Yeah.
04:37Go clean his star.
04:38Speaking of your star...
04:39What?
04:40Hollywood Walk of Fame?
04:41No, what's the restaurant it's right out of?
04:42Oh, Musso & Frank's.
04:43Yeah.
04:44Isn't that a staple?
04:45People should go to Musso & Frank's.
04:46I believe it's the oldest restaurant in Los Angeles.
04:49It's still in service.
04:51Once upon a time in Hollywood with Brad Pitt and Leo, they famously have that scene in
04:55the parking lot.
04:56With Al Pacino, too.
04:57With Al Pacino.
04:58Been around forever.
04:59Been in hundreds of thousands of movies.
05:00And, like I said, what is right outside the door of Musso & Frank's?
05:04My star.
05:05All roads lead back to...
05:06Hey!
05:07Not everybody has a good location.
05:08What about the Hollywood sign?
05:09Hollywood sign, yeah.
05:10You can't hike up to it, though.
05:11You can hike near it.
05:12Can't.
05:13Runyon.
05:14Runyon hike.
05:15It's fun.
05:16Get a glimpse of influencers in the wild.
05:18Check out Runyon.
05:24We're going to review some places to go out for a day in L.A.
05:27If we don't like it, you're going to hear about it from our buzzer.
05:32Getty Center.
05:33Oh, yeah.
05:34There's nowhere I have been meaning to go longer than the Getty Center.
05:38You haven't been there.
05:39From the day it was built, I've been going, I really need to go there.
05:43In another, what, 40 years, I'm going to get there.
05:45It rocks.
05:46It really rocks.
05:47It's as cool as you think it is.
05:49It's beautiful.
05:50I have nothing but good things to say other than the fact that I've never bothered to go.
05:53No buzzer for that.
05:56Oh, there it is.
05:57We know how we feel about this place.
05:59The illustrious Hollywood Bowl.
06:00Although it looks like they're doing stand-up comedian night.
06:02I don't know if I'd go there for that.
06:04What are you talking about?
06:05Yellow insert of that shot.
06:06He's singing.
06:07I don't know what's going on here.
06:08There's like an orchestra or something.
06:09Well, at least there's an orchestra.
06:10It's a full orchestra.
06:11And, you know, you picnic.
06:12These seats, you get picnic baskets.
06:14It's the cutest.
06:15It's so fun.
06:16It's the best.
06:17I want to use the buzzer, but I love these spots.
06:18I know.
06:20Oh!
06:21It's the best ever.
06:22Chavez Ravine, Dodger Stadium, third oldest stadium in baseball.
06:28It is a architectural masterpiece.
06:30I love the photo choice because Dodger Stadium on a warm spring or summer night, when you
06:36get the sunset like that and you have the view of the mountains in the background, it looks
06:40like a painting.
06:41You get a baseball game, you get to watch a great team, and you have that view.
06:44It's insane.
06:45The only downside is the parking might be the worst in the history of anything that's
06:51ever been invented.
06:52It's still the best.
06:53Who would buzzer Dodger Stadium?
06:55Nobody.
06:56Not while I'm around.
06:58This is El Matador Beach.
07:00It's just north of Broad Beach on the PCH.
07:04By the way, if you're up there is Neptune's Net.
07:07It's a biker bar.
07:09Been there forever.
07:10You eat your fried fish and your calamari and your fish sandwiches.
07:14And right across the street from County Line Surf Break.
07:17Is that me talking too much?
07:19You're talking too much.
07:20I'm selling the place.
07:22I really wanted to press the button.
07:24I know you did.
07:25I love it.
07:26I have nothing against this place.
07:27Someplace we gotta buzz.
07:30Oh!
07:36Listen, I don't mean to...
07:37No.
07:38This is Santa Monica Pier.
07:39I would say if it's on your list of places to go as a tourist,
07:42and you have to be picky,
07:44this is gonna be one of the more crowded spots you go to.
07:47It's beautiful, but crowded.
07:49Yeah.
07:53Here's some L.A. terms that you might not know.
07:59The industry.
08:00It's not the car industry.
08:02It's not the space industry.
08:04It's the industry.
08:05Thank you very much.
08:07Hollywood.
08:08Okay.
08:11I don't know what the hell this is.
08:12I'm gonna take a guess at what I think this is.
08:14I'm assuming this is what I refer to as street meat,
08:17which is those vendor carts that roam Los Angeles.
08:22Roam?
08:23You come out of a Rams game,
08:24they will run you over.
08:25They'll run you down.
08:26Maybe that's why it's called Danger Dog.
08:28I would refer to it as a Danger Dog
08:29because of the night you would have if you consumed it.
08:31And by the way, this is a new thing.
08:33Like, I've lived in L.A. my whole life.
08:35The notion of coming out of a nightclub at night,
08:37or a game.
08:38Does anybody have a pen or a pencil or something?
08:40Just throw it at me.
08:41I'm just gonna rename this bad boy real quick.
08:42You're gonna name it?
08:43We call this street meat.
08:45Street meat.
08:47And you absolutely stay away from street meat, guys.
08:52It's not what you want.
08:53And don't let them run you over
08:54when you're trying to get your automobile in a parking lot.
08:57No street meat.
09:00Kickback.
09:01Oh, kickback here.
09:02Kickback action.
09:03It's a hang.
09:04It's not quite a party,
09:05but it's a party.
09:07Even in Venice, it's kind of a kickback down there.
09:09It's a kickback.
09:10It's just all kickback.
09:11Southern California is known for its sort of mellow vibes,
09:14so you don't want to go all out and say you're having a party.
09:17Oh, yeah.
09:18Sure.
09:19Angelino.
09:20That's what we are.
09:21Ride or die.
09:23Angelinos, baby.
09:24It's just, it's in the name.
09:28The Southland.
09:29Yeah.
09:30That's...
09:31The Southland, it makes me feel like a newscaster
09:33when I say it.
09:34Whenever you say the name Southland,
09:35you better be wearing a suit
09:37and being on KABC.
09:39That's all I'm saying.
09:40All across the Southland today,
09:42people are mourning the loss of whatever the hell.
09:44Yeah.
09:45Southland.
09:46It's everywhere.
09:47It's where we are.
09:48Thank you guys so much for watching,
09:50and we hope you can come out and visit LA
09:52and try some of the spots we recommend,
09:54see some of the things we recommend,
09:55and come see why we love LA.
