The pads are officially on bodies as the Dallas Cowboys had their first official padded practice in Oxnard California on Tuesday.
The intensity always heightens when pads are put on, head coach Mike McCarthy stated before practice he said, “Hey this is where the tempo shifts. This is where you see self discipline and mental discipline come into play.
The first round draft pick Tyler Guyton was the obvious winner of camp today. He was going up against Micah Parsons in 11-on-11 drills. Lets just say Parsons was getting nowhere near QB1 today. Guyton is almost the equivalent to a brick wall.
Some teammates of Guyton also had some very encouraging words for him. Following practice third year Tyler Smith said, “I’ve been truly impressed. It’s not very often that you find a human being who measures how he does, 6-7, 330 and has light feet and can just move and just bully dudes. When he really becomes confident and gets the playbook down and does all that stuff, the sky is truly is the limit for him and his development. “He’s a confident guy. He knows the tools that he has. He knows how rare they are. It’s just a matter of time before he solidifies things and he’s playing at that truly elite, elite level.”
Guyton’s size speaks for itself but when he starts to feel confidence in this Cowboy’s offense he is going to be very hard to move out of the way.
Another player to keep an eye out for that has had an impressive camp is wide receiver Tyron Billy-Johnson. He’s been with the Cowboys since last season. He’s been turning heads here at camp and McCarthy agrees. When reporters asked him about Billy-Johnsons cmap so far McCarthy said, “He’s really done that since he’s been here. He’s always someone that makes the practice highlights. He just needs a full opportunity. It’s great that he’s here from Day 1. T-Billy, he’s kind of a locker room favorite, too. I just love the way he goes about it.”
In other big news for the Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has officially been taken off the physically unable to perform list. He did not participate in padded practice today he was in the rehab group with Brit. McCarthy said that are going to start to work him in slowly.
