Olympians dove into the River Seine on Wednesday after a pre-dawn notice confirmed its waters were safe for the triathlon, saving France from the embarrassment of a central Paris 2024 promise being broken.

Test results that morning showed E.Coli and Enterococcus faecalis bacteria levels were below European safety limits.

CGTN Europe's Ken Browne asked locals if they would now take a leap into the Seine.

00:00And there's like dead bodies in the river so I don't want to swim in it.
00:04We spoke to some people earlier to see would they swim in the Seine.
00:08Tell us in the comments, would you?
00:10No, I don't think so.
00:11Not very clean.
00:12Not going for a dip today?
00:14No.
00:15Not really.
00:15The water was not good.
00:18Actually here maybe not.
00:20So finally some good news for the organizers and the river Seine.
00:24The Olympic triathlons went underway today.
00:27The women's winner early on was Cassandra Beaugrand from here in France.
00:33She delighted the hosts.
00:35Great Britain's Alex Yee won the men's event.
00:38But we were here on, must be said, a different part of the Seine.
00:42We saw them cleaning the river earlier.
00:45You can see what they took out of it.
00:50So yeah, just don't expect me to get in there.
