00:00Well, last week's unforgiving weather that left most of the megacity underwater and in
00:04misery also laid ruin on warehouses and storage places of produce and agricultural products.
00:11As a result, vegetable prices in public markets across the NCR have doubled.
00:16Amid this disheartening piece of news, a ray of hope shines through as cheaper rice for
00:21all people goes on sale in four Kadiwa stores in Caloocan, Malabon, Taguig, and in the city
00:28of Manila as we hear the full story from our Clayzel Pardilia.
00:34The Department of Agriculture will officially launch its Rice for All program tomorrow.
00:39The agency aims to make well-mealed rice available at a reduced price of 45 pesos per kilogram.
00:47This initiative is set to provide significant savings for consumers as the price of similar
00:52rice can reach up to 55 pesos per kilo in some markets across Metro Manila.
00:59Unlike the Project 29, which was restricted to senior citizens, persons with disabilities,
01:05four-piece beneficiaries, and solo parents exclusively, the Rice for All program opens
01:11up unfettered access to the general public.
01:15No identification is required for purchase.
01:18Under this new program, individuals can buy up to 25 kilos of rice at designated Kadiwa
01:25stores located in FDI, Caloocan, Malabon, and at the Bureau of Plant Industry in Manila.
01:31The objective of the Rice for All program is to have available rice that is cheaper.
01:37This is one of the policies of our government to lower the effect of food items on our inflation.
01:46And of course, this will lower the price of food items.
01:51In addition to the Rice for All program, the DA will also maintain the sale of rice at
01:5729 pesos per kilo at Kadiwa stores specifically targeting the poorest Filipinos.
02:03The new operating schedule for 17 Kadiwa stores will be implemented starting tomorrow and
02:09will continue on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
02:12The DA targets to open more Kadiwa stores to sell local produce at lower prices.
02:18At the Commonwealth Market, the prices of some vegetables from Leticia have surged.
02:24What used to be 60 pesos per kilo of eggplant is now 120 pesos.
02:29The prices of chayote and carrot are no different.
02:43Vini's budget for making tinola fell short.
02:47She only managed to buy chayote so she'll have to improvise and try to get some malunggay
02:53from the neighbor instead.
03:02What used to be 120 pesos per chay for the smallest eggs sold by Mar is now 200 pesos.
03:10So one egg that used to cost 4 pesos each is now 6 pesos a pop.
03:15It's like every delivery price is increasing.
03:17Supply is decreasing.
03:20It's only decreasing.
03:23If the budget is not enough, we have to save money.
03:28Before, it used to be 2 trays.
03:30Now, it's one tray.
03:31It can hold up to a week's budget.
03:34According to the Department of Agriculture, it is natural for egg prices to increase during
03:40the school season due to higher demand.
03:43Samples have been collected from three farms in Tarlac in connection with a potential avian
03:49influenza.
03:50Confirmatory tests are underway to identify the disease affecting the farms.
03:55If the tests confirm the presence of bird flu, immediate cowling will be implemented
04:00to contain the spread.
04:02Authorities are maintaining strict monitoring in surrounding areas and there are assurances
04:07not to worry or be overly concerned about the supply of poultry products.
04:12Just wait for the result of the house.
04:15AI is easier to test compared to ASF.
04:20Because of AI, you just need to cull all the chickens and let the farm rest.
04:27Then, after six months, you can put the chickens again.
04:31The Agriculture Department has reported that the combined impact of the southwest monsoon
04:37and the super typhoon Karina has caused damage amounting to 1.21 billion pesos in the agricultural sector.
04:44High-value crops, including vegetables, have suffered losses totaling over 88 million pesos.
04:58However, the DA remains hopeful that vegetable prices will stabilize as transportation and
05:04market operations normalize.
05:07Ke laysal pardilya for the new and better Philippines.
